Why? To help football become a closed shop - the big get bigger and make it nigh on impossible for smaller clubs to ever challenge for trophies?

Yes, the biggest situation I see now is that a new uber rich guy coming in would, due to fines and various things have to pay substantially more to do a Chelsea/City/PSG, if someone in 3 years wanted to take, I don't know West Brom and spend 600mil on players over 5 years... because of FFP they could also be facing doubling that cost in fines. Its going to make the buying into a small team and investing beyond their means for a time so financially unviable that the big guys who got in early and established themselves will be relatively safe from future attempts to do the same.

It will likely be harder than ever to break into a champs league spot in the main leagues because of the potentially increasing costs for trying to invest to get into the top spots, with the top teams already making so much more from champs league it will be incredibly hard for non top 4 teams to be able to afford enough in wages/players to have a squad to compete with those above them.

something needed to be done though regarding the sugar daddy boom. Unfortunately there was always going to be a cut off point..

Hows that the case though?

There is a clear link between money spent and success in football. Under FFP you can only spend what you make and the bigger clubs can spend the most money because they make the most.

Blackburn would have never won the league had FFP been around in the 90's, Newcastle would have never been in a position to challenge under Keegan, Chelsea & City wouldn't be where they are now.

FFP was first spoke about regarding the amount of debt in football however the big clubs in Europe weren't concerned with that, they were worried about the amount of Chelsea's, City's etc popping up making it harder and more expensive for them to retain their position at the top of football.

Chelsea must have horrible finances. I know City have that false sponsorship with Etihad which helps them a bit, but these clubs just keep spending any one know how much debt these clubs have run up?

None. RA initially loaned (no interest was charged nor was there any repayments to be made) Chelsea the money but he's since turned that into equity. The money has been pumped in from the owners.

clubs are already excluded from UEFA competition under FFP:however, so far the exclusions are for unpaid bills and wages. It shows that they (UEFA) are willing to exclude clubs, but like others I'm sceptical they will do so when it comes to a big club being funded by a rich owner, especially PSG, and except for English clubs who we all know will be banned at the first chance UEFA get

#MUFC vice-chairman back in Europe on transfer business for but not for Wayne Rooney. Fabregas still ongoing.

Understand Fabregas still wants to hear Barca say that he 'is not for sale' but will not push for a move to #MUFC

Fingers (well and truly) crossed. :p

Manchester United have contacted Real Madrid for Modric, according to Sky Italy

More of this to come yet. :(

i feel a tad sorry for mata. i can't stand chelsea but mata has given nothing but 100%, is a class act and seems truely grateful for the chance he has had being a pro footballer.

rooney is almost completely the opposite and for a player like mata to be considered in a swap +CASH for a player he is better than and more proffessional than, is simply an insult to the bloke. would rooney really sell more shirts these days? even so, who cares. what do you want, shirt sales or a player who performs better?

i doubt very much this deal would ever go through and it's funny some united fans ever considered it even a possibility ............ but we are talking chelsea here i suppose and rooney would fit right on in.

:/ Except it wasn't true. Chelsea didn't offer any players in exchange for Rooney, they only offered cash. Chelsea would not sell Mata at the moment - he's our best player and one of the best in the league. The guardian reported today that in fact chelsea are going to offer Mata a new improved contract. Mata is worth (much) more money than Rooney at the moment so any talk of Mata + cash deal is absurd.

The whole swap deal thing was rubbish. It's just stupid media speculation.

i read this mornings telegraph and posted a comment on me believing the offer was cash only and highly unlikely to include mata (or any player) and posted my opinion just before 12 today. i come back nearly 10 hours later, read the replies and had to say how i can't believe some united fans may be sucked into the twitter mill ........ i then put a disclaimer saying that it's chelsea so , yeh, ya know :p

ftr. mata is my second favourite pl player. i think the bloke is a true class act.

the sad face is because there is more transfer muppetry to come! :p
Fair enough, at least Modric is more attainable than Thiago and Fabregas given their clubs squads so perhaps it will be more straightforward. Rooney <==> Modric seems quite plausible with Higuain likely to go. Ancelotti rates Rooney as well?
