These new drives will be the first to use all-Samsung components; the 10-nanometer class 128GB NAND flash memory, Samsung custom firmware and proprietary multi-core MEX controller.

The EVO range brings a shot of speed to Samsung's consumer SSDs according to information presented by the Korean tech giant. The speed gains can be between two and three times the speed of last year's SSD 840 series. For example the SSD 840 120GB drive "was rated at 130 MB/s and 86K/32K 4K random IOPS" but the new SSD 840 EVO can achieve "410 MB/s write speeds" reports Anandtech. The highest capacity EVO drive, with 1TB of storage, offers 540/520 MB/s sequential read and write, with 98K/90K IOPS respectively, it also features a 1GB DRAM cache.

1tb is a lot of data to lose should it fail

Not in this day and age where backing up is not only cheap but fast and easy.

Keep a dedicated 1TB SATA HDD and hotplug in for sync/backup imaging.

Besides, my 830 Pro has not blinked once yet and has only been rebooted less than 100 times since last November. I trust Samsung's reliability tbh.

true I rate Samsung #1 in hdd/ssd's

still prefer a 256gb though, just easier to look after but hey ho if the price is right then 1tb can't be sniffed at

still waiting for sata express to launch

Don't these drives use the less reliable MLC memory? I'd rather pay the extra for a Samsung Pro drive and get more reliable SLC memory.

SLC is waaaaaaaaay more expensive than anything they have here at Overclockers. You have the wrong term I think.

whats the release dates on these drives. in the market for my 4th ssd because i am running out of space again (cant bring myself to remove far cry etc).

EDIT: not 4th in system, just sequentially getting bigger

The Samsung Pro drives use MLC memory as well. You're thinking about TLC memory on the non-Pro.

Is TLC less reliable ?

It is known to have a shorter lifespan as far as data wrties are concerned, but I don't think there's any evidence yet of TLC being any less reliable than MLC.

They're perfectly reliable. There was an issue with initial non-production samples having problems but that was resolved with a firmware fix before release.
