Would you be willing to kill an animal yourself for meat?

It was a discussion that came up in another forum and I was genuinely surprised by the amount of people that wouldn't do it. I was born and raised in London but when I go to bangladesh I have helped to slaughter animals before. It's as fresh as it gets and you know exactly what's happened to the meat. Like cooking for yourself - it tastes nice because you did it yourself.

So would you? if not, why so? not sure how to butcher an animal or queasiness?

If I knew how to gut it properly and could get the breasts then yes (don't like meat "on the bone")

No problem with putting a .22 in the head of something non domesticated.

Have done a couple of times, rabbit and pheasant but nothing substantial in size. I didn't butcher the pheasant though, left that for someone who knew what they were doing.

I'd be more than willing to kill something myself. I'd butcher it, too. Messy though! In contrast to your last point, I find that food cooked by someone else tastes better.

Did a few sheep/cows when living in the Outback on a ranch. Best meat I've ever eaten. James, whose land I was working did the butchering / hanging etc.

I don't think I would be able to do it.

I love my meat, but I would rather go veggie than have to kill the animal myself. Kinda hypocritical I know....

Haha yes I find that I am in the minority here as most of my friends prefer food cooked by other people too rather than they're own even if its something as simple as preparing broc and cheese pasta from a sachet.

When I lived in Nigeria I went to the abbatoir and killed my own cows because I didn't like how they did it.
And when I say abbatoir I mean a piece of land on the side of the road where you pointed at the cow you wanted.

I would and could do it.

I've killed and eaten small stuff before, rabbit, fish, etc.

If I couldn't get meat from a shop, I would happily kill for food.

edit: I'm personally of the opinion that if you wouldn't do it yourself for any reason then you shouldn't be eating meat.

No chance.

Think i would agree with this in most cases.

No, there's no need to do so currently. I do know how to, however.

If I was forced to for survival, then sure, I wouldn't enjoy it, but I'd do it.

I love it in bangladesh. Helped out soo many times. And yes it dosn't get any fresher then that.

As for killing an animal for meat. No problem there for me. I'll be more then happy to do it. Yea can get messy, but thats part of it.
