Ban women from shopping alone

Islamic clerics using religion to justify the further oppression of women? Whoever would have guessed.

Seriously though, it is the culture much more than the religion that is the cause of this, the term "tribal elder" is a pretty big give away. Sadly Islam is to deeply tied within their culture that you can't realistically blame one without blaming the other, Islam IS their culture. It might not be what western Muslims consider the right way to go about interpreting their religion but sadly that doesn't remove the fact that they do interpret it that way and in doing so they literally invite criticism with every step.

Omg! Ban the Muslims ahhhhh.

Or not. Not many men would send there partners out with their credit card in this country whether it's religiously motivated or not!

Another Muslim thread....yay?!

Their country. Their religion. Their choice.

If they come here, well, that's a different matter. Until then....don't give a ****.

sensible idea tbh...

I mean otherwise you come back from work and Aisha has gone and bought a bunch of designer burkhas... aside from the raunchy one which flashes her ankles when she walks the rest of them all look the same. She'll probably sell the family goats and go buy fancy eye makeup too.

All the money saved up to buy an AK47 and a few RPGs to go and fight the great satan in afghan after ramadan is over is now squandered...

Good idea, my wife buys stupid **** when I'm not shopping with her. Which is every time she goes because I hate shopping and don't go. In my best American Dad voice "Honey, we're moving to Pakistan".

Not in Afghanistan she won't, they've just banned cosmetic shops because they promoted adultery...

*snigger*

:D

Imagine if the CofE banned shoe shopping and Clinique over here, wimmins would have rioted and tore the A.Bish a new one.

Actually it's all to do with culture (backwards at that), not religion.

It's nonsense, and symptomatic of an undeveloped culture with very little forward thinking, but that's life unfortunately. Maybe in another 1000 years they'll see the light.

The real story is some tribal elders think their interpretation of their holy book is correct but generally no one else is backing them.

Have a read of the real story from their local paper

The clerics also met the local administration and the police to implement the decision but they had refused to facilitate the implementation of this decision.

nah - they'd have simply ignored it because we're not blindly obedient to some book written centuries ago and some old fart's interpretation of how it should apply to our modern world

This, for all I know the CofE could have banned shopping and sentenced anyone wearing flip flops and hoodies to death and no one would have heard about it and the ones who have wouldn't give one.
