New gaming PC

Rubbish. Faster ram does not make a system more efficient. It makes it faster. The jump from 1600 to 2133 is simply not worth the extra cash. He'll only notice the difference in benchmarks, not in everyday applications.

You're limiting that to games, not every day usage. My comment was non-specific.

Budget and better performance. My spec will out perform yours in just about any game. I mean, this thread is for a "New gaming PC", so a decent 3570K and a 7950 is better than a 4670K+660 playing the same games at the same resolutions. I know which one I would buy.

I have to agree, there is always the 3770K as an upgrade in in say 3 years second hand.

but remember people we still need to know what case he has so that we can spec gear that will fit, if OP comes back and lets us know its a Dell its back to the drawing board as we'll need to include a case as well.

ANTEC Nine Hundred. It's no longer on overclockers but I got it from here a long while ago. There seems to be a Nine Hundred Two now but I have the older one.

Vinny: Why are we stopped here? What's wrong with that spot?
Tyrone: It's too tight.
Vinny: Too tight? You could land a jumbo ******* jet in that!

So I am going for:

MSI HD 7950 OC BE 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Intel Core i5-4670 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor

Gigabyte Z87-HD3 Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard

Microsoft Windows 8 64-Bit

XFX Pro 650W Core Edition '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply

Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2x4GB)

Well over budget at about £700! But I'm pretty happy. One thing now is the harddrive and whether to order a new one for my new machine or keep my old one. Also if I should consider SSD (although I dont know much about this.

Soo, you still there people? :)

Windows 7 64bit

Considering this to keep the new OS on and keeping my old 232gb HD for the extra memory.

Crucial RealSSD M4 64GB 2.5 SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive

Is that doable?

So would that be all I need in terms of internal storage? Still seems quite low. Wouldn't I still need to use my old harddrive?

Also do you not think Win8 is worth upgrading to?

Questions questions questions...

The choice between 7 and 8 is highly subjective. You could try Windows 8 for a bit, and if you don't like it, buy windows 7.

Windows 8 trial

As far as storage is concerned the SSD Idleman has linked is a solid choice. Consider that modern games can be between 10gb - 20gb for a full install, so you really should buy as much storage as you can afford now

At the moment I would stick with your existing OS. So, if you subtract the cost of Win 8 from your budget, you could just get a new 1TB hdd for £49.
Then use Win 8 Enterprise for a few months and see if you like it, just stick it on a small partion or on your old hdd. Might also be worth looking at the Win 8.1(Blue), which will be the final updated Win 8.

ok thanks, you have all been very helpful today :)

So would I need to wipe my current HDD including OS when I put my new system together? Because Win 7 would be on my old HDD and I would be installing Win 8 (if I get it) on the new SSD.

Just seen your post now :)

I think I will take the gamble with Win 8, budget is out the window (pun intended) anyway.

So I will get the 120GB SSD you suggested and use it alongside my current 232GB HDD. I also have a 1TB external here too so should be ok and I can always upgrade my HDD at a later date.

So back to my other question about wiping...do I wipe the whole HDD including OS? I will have to look into how to do that.

Thanks :)
