Top Gear (Series 20) Returns Sunday 30th June 2013

Ha, mate of mine has been working on the flood rescue vehicle stuff with them for months.
I was wondering when it was going to be shown.

I loved this episode as well.
I Was complaining that the old style car reviews had dsisappeared to someone the other day and then he starts this show with exactly that. brilliant.

Hovercrafting, v v funny, even if they were plants getting soaked :D

Tbf, just how high budget really are those supercar road trips? The cars will be provided, they just need some camera cars, equipment and a crew.

I imagine and fuel, food and accommodation for everyone probably adds up, but it doesn't need to be stupidly expensive. Maybe insurance is the killer??

I know moaning has been banned by the loyal supporters of the show, but it really does feel like they've lost their enthusiasm for it. Not as spontaneous feeling, even though always scripted.

Just a case of getting old and running out of ideas, I guess.

After Jackman it was all down hill, can i please have my car show back? I dont mind entertainment segments but there is to much of it and not enough cars ffs.

Nothing that Top Gear would review wouldn't have already been done by car magazines or online motoring shows.

Really enjoyed that episode, I clearly still have an immature mind as I giggled at all the penis references...

I thought it was a brilliant episode and the hover van had me in stitches.

Also, I remember them talking about the fact they wouldn't be able to sell the hover van for much less than £250,000, implying that it was a horrendously expensive thing to produce so I can't imagine it was done for budget reasons.

Not a very good episode, the hoover car thing was a fun idea but Clarkson ruined it all, he is actually intentionally trying to sabatage their efforts. Getting out of the car when going through the gate and going back up the weir were both plain idiotic.

I reckon that the destruction of the engine was a set-up. I can't imagine he'd be allowed to kill a 600bhp engine, presumably some race engine, at a whim. Bit of smoke and you have the typical Top Gear ending - a **** up.

missed the episode but managed to catch it on iplayer a few hours later xD

great episode!

electric SLS.... bit mad!! love how you can fully discharge them in no time but take 20 hours to juice back up :p think everyone would be coasting everywhere to try and get some energy back xD

Hugh Jackman was great!entertaining guy!

The TransitFan ..... simply epic!!! bonkers idea and as usual the solution to the problems... MORE POWER!!! hahaha! some quite hairy moments though... for example when they knocked the dude off his boat....pretty sketchy as it just kept pushing, could have been fatal if he went under o.O spraying everyone... HAHA, the guys being the pain in peoples bum as usual hehe to be fair though they made something and it did actually work, rough around the edges and trying to go up a weir may not have been the best idea but still, highly entertaining!! :D roll on next week!

Are people still moaning about the direction the show has taken?

Car reviews are in abundance right now, AutoExpress, EVO, AutoCar, PistonHeads, DRIVE, Parkers, HonestJohn and Top Gear (website). These are the ones I read and watch, and I don't feel as though "I need a TV show for more information".

Personally I wouldn't really want Clarkson, May or Hammond recommending a car for me.

It is, however, a brilliantly entertaining show and this is what TV should be about.

Meanwhile, Chris Harris, Mat Watson et al can keep doing the reviews the every man can relate to.

This.

10 years ago average Joe could well get his car advice from Quentin Wilson on a Sunday evening, but now with the rise in online car journalism and YouTube a TV based car show is just so far behind the curve its pointless. With the lead times of producing a TV show and fitting it into a schedule Top Gear would be reviewing cars up to 6 months after everyone else has already done it.

Take the Electric SLS. That was covered in Evo and online by Chris Harris about 3 months ago. No point in going into all the details about it now, so they take the more entertaining route of messing about in it with an SLS Black.

The business of 'proper' car reviews is handled by Top Gear magazine and all its rivals, the TV show is now all about entertainment.

But it would be boring if everything went smoothly wouldn't it?

You really just don't get programmes do you? First GoT now Top Gear.
