David Cameron urges internet firms to block child abuse images

There's a BT office just down the road from me, I will turn up in person to save money on the phone call.

Isn't possessing online pornography the same as distribution, or are they meaning people who download flash browser porn?

I wonder if his moral struggle with retaining the independence of the press will match the independence of the people. I don't like this meddling in certain industries while leaving others alone when it suits you.

Classic Daily Mail.

Cameron looking at hand. "Well, I won't be needing this anymore"

It is a rather unfortunate choice of image :D

Can we start a betting pool of whats going to be censored next?

I still dont think porn is a huge issue (says a lot about me doesnt it haha).

It isn't a huge issue, whether one watches it or not, porn is just one of those limb-jerk words, one way or the other always gets somebody vigorously shaking.

On local BBC radio the presenter started questioning someone from the leading anti-child porn groups who I hoped failed to understand his question.

"Is porn really that bad?"

".. Er .. Yes, of course it is!"

Her answer then went on to be about CHILD porn, which is obviously really that bad, but that wasn't the question.

Of course porn is now more easily accessible, it's no longer reading raunchy books for girls, or stealing lads mags, or the knock off video, but that's still a parents responsibility, not a Government concern.

Like other people have said regular porn is nothing dangerous and what scares me is the adult filter, does this block all adult content ? Including swearing and boobies links?

As I've mentioned before - This is absolutely pointless.

It should be down to the parents to put in the necessary safe guards.

And what decides if a site contains porn or not? There is too much of it on the net to ban it all.

Apparently the latest figures put porn at 4% of the top 1million domain, 12-15% of daily searches and accounts for almost 1.5% of the entire internet. (bbc)

Child abuse I'd happily strangle perpetrators with my own hands but there's nothing wrong with normal porn.

I can see the argument extreme types may make people inclined to commit it in real life but there's probably just as many people who cant get their fix anymore and will take it to real life as a result.

I'm recently single and as such take this personally haha

You mean the same parents that can't set up parental controls as their child ramps up endless thousands on game add-ons for their iPads?

Its amazing how this go's through with no clear evidence. Yet plenty of evidence for other stuff, cigarettes' alcohol etc doesnt get close.

Maybe the tax they earn on cigs and alcohol had something to do with the sway of opinion :D

I fail to see how parents who cannot help their child with such a simple thing would raise perfect children otherwise :(

Nail and head.......doubt this will go through and if it does its a mere token gesture

What the problem people have always had porn as a kid it was stolen grot mags or your mates dad's dirty videos?
Slippery slope for state censorship & its not something i see is a good move maybe this government will stop at porn whatv about the next or the following one what will they deem dangerous for society?
As a parent I have employed rioters browser Ievel, os level and at network look even and keep an eye on my sons usage.

I've not really read much about it but what's to stop someone removing the filter and then searching for 'illegal' stuff?

Other than reducing the number of people accidentally browsing pr0n, I'm not sure what else it will achieve?

thing with politics these days is you can just say you'll tackle something you don't actually have to do it.

Still more civil servants working today than in 2004 yet he's tackled that as well.

He's tackled the deficit yet that's higher than ever.

He tackles a lot of issues until someone tells him it's harder to do than he thinks then it's U-turn.

Child porn blocking yes please and prosecution as well
Porn blocking no thanks
adult content blocking definitely no!

Ive not read the whole thread so sorry if this has been covered.

So if I as an adult want to look at pornographic imagines....perfectly legit ones, I would have to declare that I want the filter turned off, and whilst its off any pornographic material could be searched for, thus meaning my children could happen upon images not suitable for children. Hmm the system is massively flawed.

Also I can see many husband wife conversations talking about the filter and why has it been opted out off hehe. Luckily I have an open minded wife.
