surely his worth is determined by 5 factor's, how good the player is and their age, as well as how important he is to the current team and the length of contract as well as how badly the other team want him?

e.g. you could say no way is a set of speakers worth £7,000 but then there will always be someone out there who really values sound quality who begs to differ.

take a look at Carrol he went for £35m, liverpool at the time must have deemed him to be worth it otherwise they wouldn't of payed that much

We were idiots when it came to buying Carroll soon as they said anything above 20m should have walked. Me personally if we were going to buy bale I'd say 50m but that's due to how market is, he has 1 great season and one good one I think he will get allot better but Ronaldo for example was dominating the league week in week out before he left UTD you could garuntee he would do something for utd every week and he did that for few seasons something bale hasn't but could do maybe with another seasons over here. Just a matter of view though clearly Madrid may think he is at that level all ready I personally dont

Chelsea has completed the signing of Cristian Cuevas from Chilean club O'Higgins:

The 18-year-old has signed a contract until 2018. He came through the youth ranks at O'Higgins before breaking into the first team and playing in the top flight in Chile.

At the FIFA Under-20 World Cup this summer he played in four of his nations' five games as Chile made it to the quarter-finals before losing to Ghana.

At 5ft 7in tall he plays primarily as a left-back but can also operate as a left-winger.

Isco plays further forward than Modric, so no problems there, really.

Alonso has been out with an injury and isn't getting any younger either.

Modric played 52 times, with way over half of these being starts. They have - Alonso, Modric, Khedira, Illarramendi & Casemiro for the CM options, it's not like they are busting at the seems with so many that he can be let go, really.

As above, it's a myth that people seem to believe. He very much plays a good amount of football for Madrid and with Alonso being 31 and umms and ahhhs over a contract it wouldn't be too surprising to see him take the lead role.

You said that he is about as likely to leave as Fabregas, we explained why we thought that was not the case. I'm not saying he is gagging to leave but to compare the situation with that of Fabregas is a little bit of a stretch I would say.

Why?

Both are in similar playing time positions, both caused a bit (a lot in Modric' case) to leave their clubs, both still have a good amount of time left on their contracts etc etc.

The only thing you could add to Fabregas is that it's his 'boyhood' club, but playing for Real Madrid isn't no small thing for a football player either.

I'm not having a pop, just seems all these things get flung about by people but it's always just baseless bits and pieces that logically don't really stack up when you look at it.

Well, assuming they play 2 central/holding midfielders, it'll likely be Alonso/Illarramendi + Khedira/Casemiro.

Isco/Ozil/Ronaldo/Di Maria will occupy the attacking midfield/wide positions.

So, with that in mind I don't think Modric would be getting any first-team starter guarantees, but maybe he will.

I don't think any of us think you are having a pop ;)

We just think that the situation at Madrid in the centre means that modric is less vital to their plans that Fabregas is to Barcelonas. You may be completely correct but that is the way we see it. No exits from Real in the centre and 2 additions wheras Barca have just lost one of their future midfield stars.

Honestly, I still cannot fathom why we are still hunting Fabregas. I would say there is almost no chance of us getting him and the longer we leave it the more likely we are to end up empty handed.

If we don't re-enforce we have little chance of winning a trophy of note next season and if we couldn't sign top class players as EPL champions, I doubt it will be easier without it. Who know really. I would just like us to sort something out.

Frustrating to see so many teams see a player they want and actually buy them. As others have mentioned, if Fabregas suddenly decides he wants a move I'm sure that a number of other richer clubs would suddenly have an interest.

From Sky Sports News. Fingers crossed. :p

The new Barca manager has a press conference at 7pm CET later so maybe he'll be asked about it too.

Will be the most interesting transfer of the summer.

If he were to go I wonder if chelski and city would join the chase...

Still can't see him going, one of his team mates says he's staying, sky source says he might be going...

Certainly make the next few weeks an F5 marathon :p

TBH Man U stand a better chance of getting Modric than Fab IMO. Fab is better, just, but Modric would also be a good buy. Not worth the £35m they've bid for Fab though.

In a few years time someone will uncover a legal name change form in which some **** at Sky was renamed "Sky Sources" so they could legally constantly spout made up crap pretending it was from independant sources.

There were a couple bids and some interest in Fabregas previously, if a player doesn't want to go, a player doesn't want to go, full stop. The size of the transfer in for him is irrelevant, the size of the contract might be, Utd will have sounded out the agent already and probably let them know how much money they'd be willing to give Fabregas... he wasn't interested then.

Fabregas has in interviews and I'm fairly sure on camera earlier this summer said he has absolutely no intention of leaving, the ONLY thing that could change this would potentially be Barca asking him to leave, accepting a bid wouldn't even be asking him to leave, if they accept a bid and tell him its better for them he leaves he said he MIGHT change his mind. So unless his club accept a bid and tell him to **** off and drive him to the airport, its not going to happen.

Don't forget, even if Cesc at some stage hinted he might be open to leaving... he could be trying to get a new larger contract at Barca sorted ;)

IF Utd were able to get Modric for a reasonable amount less (£10m~) than the current Cesc bid then that wouldnt be a bad bit of business, but while he would (vastly) improve Utd I dont believe Luca is worth anything like the same kind of money the Barca man is clearly worth.

The problem comes because I suspect RM would only sell to Utd for the same kind of money (and he was never worth the £35m or so RM paid out originally)

........ accepting a bid wouldn't even be asking him to leave

As laughable as always.

Like clubs routinely accept bids for players they want to keep.

If they want him to stay - they carry on rejecting any and every offer.
If they accept a bid, they obviously value that amount of money more than the player and are therefore wanting (or needing) the player to leave.

.

Barca also had a much more successful season last time out as well (ok they got hammered in the CL by an awesome team, but they won their league relatively easily, and one - or was it both - of their national cups too).

Being on the cover of Marca means the deal is half done. :p

He is wearing a white top so it will be an easy transition to RM :)
