Unusual sign

Saw a van today, an alloy wheel refurbishing company, and on the back were 3 signs, a green compressed gas diamond, a red flammable liquid diamond - nothing to unusual there, but next to it was a yellow sign with a picture of an exhaust pipe saying "no catalytic exhaust fitted" what's all that is about, to stop exhaust thieves?! and how come it doesn't have a cat (new van)?

Yeh that was my initial thought, but then I thought surely all vehicles, modern ones any way, have cats.. This van was fairly new, maybe two or three years old, and so surely any thief will know damn well it will have a cat.

I know a lot of cats can be built into the downpipes on the manifold, which would make pinching it a pointless exercise due to the effort of getting it off the vehicle.. Unless thieves these days really are lacking in knowledge.. One would think if you are in the business of robbing cats, you would know which vehicles you could simply jack it up quickly and snap/grind the exhaust off, and which vehicles aren't worth bothering with..

Did it definitely say no catalytic converter fitted? I've seen similar signs that say something about the catalytic converter being protected by something like this

no, that's the weird thing.

Maybe it was a troll/boy racer sticker, it was a funny shape a bit like my crude approximation below but the text was more like: "no catalytic exhaust fitted" it struck me as very odd!

It's not exactly a new thing, though it's far more prevalent these days as the price of the metals in cats has gone through the roof. But yes, it is time to decamp

I've not heard of this as in the marking of hazards present on a vehicle but at an incident involving a vehicle whether it be a fire or an RTC a catalytic converter is one of many hazards that we check for and put control measures in place to deal with.

It is probably because of potential emissions in confined spaces. A works van may be in a confined space, a building, in a tunnel or a mine adit where toxic build up of fumes would be a hazard to health.

So no CC, no entry to these areas.
