Royal Baby soon to put in an appearance

Whoever thinks their kids and royal kids are in the same ball park are in dream land.

They aren't even in the same sport.

You are completely correct.
What my kids decide to do with their life is entirely up to them.
The royal kids? Not so much.

LoL! Loved the old American guy. Who was that? Westminster will be hating him for what he said.

But it is one line, sure it's squigly - there are times when Monarchs have had no children so it's had to go backwards to some 3rd son of a King then start going down again but it's still a line and a direct blood relation.
But the line is not broken.

Direct blood line traced, 1000 years old, unbroken, does simply not exist.

Nope, definitely James VI/I.
His grandfather was James V of Scotland and James V's mother was a daughter of Henry VII of England.
So sure maybe James V's father and his line comes from the Norman Invasion, so the link is instead through the mother.

But it's funny you should mention the Norman Invasion, because guess what? William the Conqueror was a descendant of Alfred the great too :)
Even if he wasn't the line of Harold, who William defeated, came back to the throne later on because his children survived and one of his great-great etc grandsons became King.

Like I said, it's a squigly line. Maybe what you think of as 'broken' is different to me.

I know that there was much inter-marriage, yet it doesn't change the fact that only at times the most loose of connections allow some to circumvent events to throw these sort of misnomers. The only way they can claim as far back as possible is through the Scottish Crown, not the English lines.

I find some of the relations far too contentious and flimsy - often pulling in other Households across Europe - for it to be considered reasonable to assert it as if these were direct relations.

Quite a few so it would seem don't appear to have grasped the fact that their kid could cure cancer and have to get his reward on his knees from this kid who could quite feasibly spend the next 50 years on his arse doing no more than the average Jeremy Kyle guest.

Lol at the people bashing our monarchy when it's our monarchy who does more for us than the posh gimps you all vote to put in power. Nowt wrong with having a monarchy just as long as it cannot do the things it used to do. I'd like to think ours is the only monarchy worth having on this earth and it falls in line with 21st century Britain.

21st Century Britain?

Loss of empire, near bankruptcy, growing inequality, poverty and a bleak future?

I don't think they fall inline with that, somehow.

I think the more the media goes on about it the more I don't care.. evening standard did 9 full pages. I had to skip to page 10 to start reading news.

Why people would camp outside and stand and shout things is kind of crazy. Mass hysteria run amok.

Well lets end it there, because we obviously aren't going to agree.
It was a rather slow day at work and I enjoyed reading up on Kings and Queens of old - history was always my favourite lesson at school!

Because their lives are sad an empty. They are prepared to think that because somebody was born under different circumstances that they are entitled to leadership and rule.

Some people just crave subservience, it appears. Let them shriek and and stand and shout. It is amusing.

Don't worry Bio, when Scotland get it's independence you'll have seen the end of all this... Oh! Wait! No, she will apparently still be head of state of the Scotland n the United Kingdom (just a different UK...);)

All the Monarchy bashing here is shameful... Do you know what, it's one of the few things we have going for us that other country's looks at with glassy eyes. That's right, it's good for the country, gets us attention all over the world and actually does the country a lot of good for it.

Kids these days are all doom and gloom, sitting on backsides all day whining its not fair they get a silver spoon from birth... Well good on them, it's one hell of job, goodbye your freedom, cameras pointing at you wherever you go.

Now to the whiners, get off your lazy asses and make something of your life... Don't try to bring down one of the last things that sets us apart from so many other country's.

Gonna leave this thread before I rage attack my keyboard

So because there's other people who are even more undeserving of the silver spoon that means it's alright that the royals get one?

It's also countries mate and other countries like our royals because they're not theirs, do you think for a minute the Americans would take a family lording it over another forever?

It's not one hell of a job either, it's a life of pampering, their 'duties' include smiling once in a while and shaking some of the plebs' hands while they tell you what an honour it is.

Then they go and get back on the private jet and have every one fawning over them.

I can't believe anyone who goes out and does almost any job full time would say that the royals' jobs are hard.

I meant they are more in touch than they ever were. Harry goes to Afghan to serve and protect us for crying out loud. More than what our politicians do for us.

not read whole thread.

Ok I dont care to much for any of this. Royal or whatever. I was made to watch some of this by her indoors.

It was a bit weird watching them come out with the baby in hand. That Baby is a future king. I just found it humbling looking at him thinking of his potential future.

He is no different than anybody and I said that as I left the room, but he is what he is. Royal. No3

Hah, you mean he goes there to endanger his units more than they already are/were.

Why cant they do "normal" jobs?

Jesus, some people are so deluded.

First of all, protect us from who? Oh you mean the people in robes firing 30 year old pistols at the most advanced weaponry money can buy? When was the last time you needed protecting from one them.

Secondly, do you really think he was ever in harm's way? I saw the report he did, he only ever did scouting missions for one and like that was ever anything but a morale booster is a joke.

The (then) second in line to the pointless, antiquated throne being placed in genuine combat missions, come on mate have a word with yourself.

Take a step back and without prejudging, think about what you're saying.

First of, in case you cant tell, those guys in robes are very good at what they are doing and completely fearless, and have done a good job putting many of our fellas in the ground.
Anyone that leaves a compound even for a routine patrol ( which he did several of) is taking a huge risk.
It is a morale booster. Then to go and learn and operate with the Apache, not something you can be "handed" despite what anyone thinks.
Plus, he seems to have been liked enough that many of the fellas he served with sending pics and hanging about with him etc and treating him " as the lads".
