987 Boxster side vents

Since my car last went into my local OPC I've heard a faint whistling sound coming from somewhere near the rear passenger side wheel. Yesterday I went to have a look expecting to find a leaf in the vent or something on my tyre but I've just noticed that behind the vent there is a slab of plastic;

The only side has a hole with what looks like an intake fan;

I'm not on the best of terms with my local OPC at the moment so before I go in and accuse them of not putting the car back together properly I thought I'd try and check to see if this is how the car should be or not?

I can't seem to find any pictures or mention on the internet with my shoddy Goggle skills.

Any ideas?

So what is it you think the problem is?

Only asking as it seems fairly plausible that one side has a fan whilst the other just has a duct.

On a Boxster is one side an intake while the other side is a vent?

Maybe your 987 is turning into a whistling & dancing cockney geeser'....

May not be that much help but the following link has a picture of what I assume to be the left hand side of a 987 boxter with the side vent removed:

Looks to be a solid piece of plastic behind this one as well.

Trying to work out where the whistle sound is coming from. It gets a lot louder if a turn / bank left.

It's very odd, I thought they might have put something back incorrectly and that would cause the noise.

Might get my local mechanic to have a quick look next time I pass.

Looks like it could be the passenger side mirror;

Felt like it was coming from further back though....

Hi there

If your still under warranty, drop it off, get a new Cayman for a day or two! :D

It's under the OPC warranty.

Don't talk to me about courtesy cars though, OPC Guildford have given me Boxsters the last 4/5 times my car has been in. Anyway I took it in 3 weeks ago for some work to be done to the roof.

They suddenly realise that their insurance only covers over 25's, so I've never been insured on these £40k+ courtesy cars.

They then ask me to pay my own insurance company to get insured on a courtesy car. I refused, but I'm running late for work because of this. They finally agree they will pay for the car to be added to my policy but I'll have to pay on the day and be reimbursed later.

I was due to have the courtesy car until the next morning, the women only insured me for 1 day meaning I had to drive it to them uninsured and I'm still chasing the refund.

I'm now not allowed a Porsche courtesy car anymore and must be given a VW or something.

I've had to visit OPC Guildford around 6/7 times I purchased the car from them just over 2 years ago and every single time there has been a significant issue. If there was another OPC within a reasonable driving distance I would be going there but Reading is too far.

They've tried to shaft me out of money, constantly give the car back with issues and just seem to have no internal communication.

They excel is some areas but my experiences with them as a servicing garage have been horrible.

For my Porsche service is superb when its by the book within the rules.

But when something is maybe out the ordinary, or not by the book or means maybe bending the rules or trying to go out of their way, they seem absolutely and totally useless. Yes they are a big company and will have rules set by Germany, but sometimes its that extra customer service and going that little bit extra is the difference between average to service to absolutely mind blowing service.

Don't look on PH, a poor guys Turbo has blown up and Porsche are refusing to warranty it due to over-revs, YET they sold him a warranty with those same over-revs just a few months back. That in my view is terrible service! So he has got a 26k engine bill........
