New CPU Cooler Advice

HI I'm looking into getting a new CPU cooler to replace me stock Intel cooler for the i7 2700k.

All that I'm really looking for in a new cooler is something to lower the temps down and maybe be a bit more quieter. I have the Cooler Master HAF 922 case with two intake and two exhaust fans running, but me room seems to be the hottest in the house and me CPU temp always seems to go over 72 degrees with just browsing the internet and I can hear the CPU fan speed up and slow down all the time.

I'm looking to spend up to £40 - £50, maybe more.

Over notes is I've got 8gbs ram, blu-ray drive, 2TB hard drive and 2gb 580 graphics card

Thanks

Cooler Master HAF 922 case
I used to have that case with an I7 and Noctua dual fan air cooler which worked a treat.

Make sure the case fans are correctly screwed on so they draw air in the front and out the back and/or top - make sure they're not conflicting against each other causing hot air to remain inside the case :)

The RAM is 8gb corsair vengeance high profile (have spare low profile cases which I can swap over if they won't fit with new cooler)

The whole system was cleaned out last sat 20/7/13 and the front fans are pulling air in and rear/ top or pulling air out and I'm really not looking to be overclocking.

If you're not overclocking you shouldn't be spending £50+ on a cooler, a good £25-£30 one will be enough to give you low noise and good temps.

Make sure you have Speedstep etc. enabled in the BIOS so that the CPU clocks down when idle.

Your board should be able to do that well enough itself, just make sure you plug it into the 4 pin CPU fan header.

As teppic said the CPU fan header will control the cooler. If you mean to control case fans I use PWM case fans and control them with the CPU fan header PWM signal too. ;)

Also, if you got your system pre-built definitely check the BIOS settings.

I once had a bundle supplied by a competitor which had all the fans set to max speed and all power saving features disabled with a stupidly high fixed CPU voltage. It sounded ridiculous, and about three settings later it was silent and using a fraction of the power.

They look fine to me. Also in Windows check your power saving settings - if you run CPU-Z or something you should see your clock speed and voltage fall when the system is idle.

You'll just need a replacement cooler and you'll only hear the CPU fan at high load.

So I brought a Thermalright macho rev a (BW) and installed it all today, but when I started me computer up I got an CPU warning message. I went into me BIOS and found the cpu rpm is 465 and is in red, is this because the new cpu fan doesn't need to operate as fast as the stock cooler?

P.s I disabled the limiter on the CPU to stop the error message for appearing

You should be fine. Nice low idle temp. Keep and eye on your CPU temp when you stress it to be sure it's not going too high but I would be very surprised if it gets within 10c of critical.
