Annoying Screen 'Jolting'

Have an HP LE1851w VGA monitor I am using with an Asus Ares II card, every now and then the top of image on screen will 'jolt' downwards. Sometimes does it frequently especially when working in Photoshop or gaming full screen, seems to be when moving windows around or images etc but also just randomly.

Did not have this problem using with Xbox 360 or with laptop but since got my new desktop built has been doing this.

Any ideas? Have tried disabling crossfire, reducing power consumption, changing Catalyst drivers/settings, changing monitor settings, changing VGA cable, changing refresh rate, overclocking 2D.

Can only think of my power supply (In-Win GreenMe 750W) being strained by my system as I need a new PSU.

Code:
Specs:

AMD FX8320 Black Edition (@4.2GHz)
8GB G-Skill Ripjaws X 2133MHZ
Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0
Asus Ares II
Corsair H100i
Crucial M4 128GB SSD
Samsung Spinpoint 1TB
In-Win GreenMe 750W PSU

Thanks.

Seems like a hardware problem may be at fault. I used to get similar jolting on my Dell laptop screen and after I took the screen apart I realised the display ribbon needed replacing.

Few troubleshooting suggestions:
Try a different cable and test
Try a different monitor and test
Check the display ports on both sides for any damage

Tried different cable = same problem
Not got another monitor to test otherwise would be using a much better one
All ports are fine, can only use one DVI-out port from card using digital adapter though, other doesn't work with adapter as far as I remember being a normal hardware requirement.

Been reading up here: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?30199-Asus-ares-2

I don't have artefact issues just this shaking once in a while, I disabled the 2D clock and gave the card more power seems to have calmed down now but will need to test later in games etc.

I guess you could try those software troubleshooting options too, sounds like you're already disabling all overclocks and checking if everything runs smooth but are you seeing any jolting at all when it's running without any overclocking?

I say hardware because software usually involves artifacting and discoloured pixels but you aren't getting any of that, it appears as though you're getting a gentle display connection problem. I'm really thinking it may be the monitor at fault... could you ask a friend if they don't mind you bringing your rig to their house for testing, or maybe your main TV has a compatible connection in the back.

Do your Xbox and laptop use different display ports to connect to the monitor? If they aren't using VGA then it could still be the monitor... also, are you using a cheap adapter to convert the video output from the Asus Ares II into VGA? I'd assume the Ares would be a DVI output so if you're connecting to a VGA monitor you'll be converting digital to analog, so that's why I'd highlight the adapter at possible fault too.

I really don't think it is the monitor, never had this problem with laptop using VGA or Xbox using VGA converter.

What cable would I need for DVI > VGA? Isn't one of DVI ports on card analog/digital and another just digital?

Aftr reading that rog thread I think those cards re just faulty.

Using DVI to HDMI adapter as Ares 2 only has DVI and Display ports on a 1080p HDTV and no problems at all. The VGA monitor worked fine with Xbox and Laptop so it must be something to do with the cable or the VGA to DVI adapter.

I will buy a direct VGA to DVI cable to rule out a problem with adapter and go from there.

Can someone help with choosing the right DVI to VGA cable please? Not sure which I need to solve my problem.

Would I need a DVI-A to SVGA, the DVI connector is a DVI-I but only uses the analog signals for SVGA.

Thanks.

i dont mean to hijack your thread im having exactly the same issues with my new monitor i bought recently its a 27" iiyama E2773HS the only difference is i get it at the bottom! and not as frequently as u.

i had a acer monitor before this and never had this issue, ive used the dvi cable from the acer monitor still does it used another dvi cable and still does it used a hdmi cable still does it.
going to uninstall my graphics drivers and reinstall to see if that stops it.

any other suggestions?
any help would be much appreciated.

So yours is not VGA I presume, all DVI? I ordered a high quality DVI-VGA cables last night will arrive tomorrow so see if that fixes it as I am sure it's something to do with the DVI adapter on the VGA cable.

these are the Inputs: 1x Analogue, 1x DVI-D & 1x HDMI

its this monitor if your intrested:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-077-IY&groupid=17&catid=1120&subcat=0

ive just done a full wipe of my drivers including going into hidden files and deleting all amd/ati files and going into the registry and doing the same i followed this guide may help:
http://www.overclock.net/t/988215/h...l-ati-amd-software-drivers-for-graphics-cards

re installed the 13.4 drivers just waiting to see if this has fixed it havent re installed the cap1 profile though as of yet wanna see if this is okay then do the cap see if that makes a difference.

Have you tried checking the 2D clocks on the card? On my Ares II the 2D clocks are very low after I bumped them up using Asus GPU Tweak the problem has calmed down a ton, not completely but much better. Also think something to do with the voltages?

well it hasnt gone away seen it do it twice since doing the driver clean
hmm will have a look at that can i do it with afterburner?
what worries me is i think its the monitor as its the only thing thats changed in my setup...

Did you try connect something else to the monitor like a console, laptop or dvd/bluray player? I tried my computer on a TV using an HDMI cable with DVI adapter and it worked fine no problem.

no i havent yet im going to connect it too my housemates pc and see what happens.
not sure if i should hope it does it on his or its fine...

New cable fixed the problem, no more issues, so nice! Got a Lindy DVI-A to VGA so pure Analog, must have been the adapter as that was a dual link DVI going into a straight VGA cable.

glad u got your sorted sadly mine just seems to get worse the screen has started to pixalate at times also tried to dvi cables and a hdmi cable with no joy and a full driver sweep and also had it on two different computers with it doing the same thing on both.

looks like its time to use the warranty hopefully it works as ive just bought this off the mm (in perfect working order, not quite!!) i have got purchase proof from the seller so hopefully it will get replaced!! fingers crossed!

Yeah sounds like a monitor issue as you say if you have tested on various other devices. Hope you get it sorted! :)
