Hi guys,

Im after a cheap 32" 1080p HDTV for mainly console gaming which will also have my PC connected to it as the main monitor, so something that provides an accurate picture with little lag would be ideal.

Im used to using PlayTV on my PS3 to record freeview stuff, but obviously wont have that option once the PS4 is out so would like Freeview HD if possible - is there a function where you can record TV to a USB slot or something directly?

I think thats all Im really after, just need at least 2 HDMI connectors, optical out to my speaker system and DVI/USB/Ethernet connectors for PC/DivX/MKV use...

Any ideas what models I should be looking at? Hoping a few people here might have similar requirements for a console/PC.

TIA

Wow cheers dude, Ill look into that, tbh I had assumed Ill end up getting an entry level Samsung. Does seem the more feature rich a TV is the more likely it will add ghosting/nput lag purely because of the picture processing it does. I think Im going to order nearer Christmas, perhaps I can get something cheaper in January, I guess most models are refreshed Q1 too...

EDIT: Just wow at this :D
EDIT2: I think it does have USB - http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_.../TX-L32EM6B/Specification/12743632/index.html

What sort of budget you got to work?

it's not the extra features that cause the issues it's the panel lcd/led is known for having motion issues when it comes to tvs it goes away with the high end screens.

samsungs are known for input lag and motion blur.

what ??? my last tv was way better than the tv I got now ( plasma vs now lcd )... input lag on any TV is there ... 30 ms min , thats why there are monitors

what are you going on about?

are you confused there is no mention about plasma vs lcd/led.

usb recording feature is more for £500+ models

Honestly Ive not thought much on budget - around £300 would be ideal though I think I might be a bit ambitious considering the requirements.

From what research Ive done in the past its definitely the case the more image processing going on the more likely a TV will suffer from input lag. Its why most have a game mode that removes those additional processing to minimise that lag. It seemed to get to the point where gamers had to look at more entry-level sets (Samsung 530s and LG 450s come to mind), but Im sure thats changed now LCDs are much more mature...
well it has a usb socket .. you cant record tho
Ah got you, tbh I thought I made that type of feature up! Looks like it will be a costly addition...

Maybe you should look at getting a large monitor.

If you really want tv functions then you have the options of tv card in pc or a freeview dvr I would think either option would just fit into your budget

Im currently using a Dell 2407FPW, which tbh hasnt missed a trick and because the PS3 had PlayTV, for the little TV I watched it was more than adequate. I was just thinking of killing multiple birds with a TV upgrade once I move onto the PS4. Be nice to have Freeview HD with recording functions so the TV did it all - problem is as soon as you go for 32" a lot of the better features just dont make it to that screen size.

TBH nothing really stopping me just leaving the PS3 as it is, as a PVR. I think I need to see what I can justify budget wise.

BTW I thought some of the entry level Samsungs were pretty good for gaming - I think it was the UE32**5000s that replaced the 530s that I read about...

Thanks for the ideas.

OK had a quick look at Richer Sounds website and found 2 TVs that seem to fit the bill around £350:

SAMSUNG UE32F5500
LG 32LN575V

I need to look into things like DivX/MKV playback and what they are like for console gaming and displaying an accurate PC picture. Think the LG one looks like the better of the two (only difference is it having ARC though).

Think I need to hit the review sites and AVForums!

Just wanted to bump this as Ive started looking again because the PS4 is due out - got a much better idea what I want - is there anything that fits this bill:

32" 1080p
Low input lag with 4:4:4 chroma
Freeview HD with recording
DLNA with MKV support

As Ill use it for my PC, I think 32" is as big as I want, but if it makes sense to go bigger please mention it. I did want SMART features but Im guessing Im unlikely to get that...

The UE32f5000 is reviewed very highly on hdtvtest and it's what I'm going to get my daughter for Christmas. With the 5 year warranty on it makes it good value as well.

That Samsung doesnt have DLNA nor USB recording sadly but its my backup choice - Ill look at that Panasonic EVH (think like Sony they arent the greatest for SMART and digital streaming support), just hoping the F5500 isnt laggy due to SMART otherwise it would be perfect

6 day revival!

I'm in a very similar situation to yourself in regards to needing a 32" that's got as good a picture as possible, 1080p, and good for gaming with my incoming PS4 and I've spent hours trying to put two and two together. (Also noticed your thread on AV Forums).

Personally I've come to the conclusion that the Sony KDL-32W653 or the Panasonic TX-L32E6B may fit the bill as best as possible within the price point. (Sub £400). But I'm aware of samsung offering up a decent choice or two aswell.

Basically I'd be interested to see what you do opt for yourself. As a side note I read that someone thought the 5500 model Samsung looked worse than the 5000.

Im also looking at the TX-L32E6B, my 2 year old Samsung LED is horrible for motion blur, I am going to go check the TX-L32E6B out, hoping it will be perfect for the PS4.

Apparently the TX isn't great for motion blur which you may notice whilst gaming, or if you intend to watch football on the tv, etc. However the input lag amount is fairly low which is a plus for gaming.

I guess you should just check it out in the flesh in regards to motion blur.

The sony I mentioned above was regarded as being not perfect but not bad at all for motion blur whilst watching fast paced football, albeit it with a slightly higher input lag for gaming. But I doubt I'd notice the 7ms difference myself.

Thats what I have just noticed reading some of the reviews. Really frustrating, seeing as I will only use the screen for games and movies, motion blur is a deal breaker to me. Trying to buy a tv these days is a nightmare, and the lack of plasma screens is a real shame.

Frustrating that on the one had the input lag is low but there is evidence of blur on the TX as its had some great reviews.
