Hi all,

I currently have a MSI Lightning 6970, which is ok ish, but I would like to change for more performance. I also fancy a change to the green team. I have a 2700K running at 4.5 Ghz in an Asus Maximus Formula board Z77 chipset.

My dilemma is I would like to get the best bang for buck - in an ideal world I would like a single 780, but funds wont stretch to that. My budget is £350 - 400.

Have narrowed down my choices to these options thus far:-

KFA2 760 GTX oc on two this week at £209.99, and was thinking to get two of these for Sli, as I have not had the pleasure of running Sli before.

Or

Should I go for a single 770 card such as

EVGA 770 Gtx superclock on two this week at £347.99 with the good EVGA warranty and usual quality from EVGA, plus the overclocking softweare you can use with the EGVA

Or

INNO3d 770 GTX Ichill Herculeze Z x3 ultra on two at £359.99 - have read some reports on these and they cool better than other cards.

Or should I go for the 4 gig memory version of the Ichill at £395 which may be better as I am gaming at 2560x1440 on my 27" Dell.

Just don't know which way to go - what are your thoughts? any suggestions or help appreciated in making my decision.

Cheers

Mark

I wouldn't bother with 4gb + cards unless you go multi gpu and multi monitor.

In your shoes I'd probably go for two 760s, since they will give you the most bang for buck. If I was pressed for an opinion on a single card, then these for the money looks like a pretty decent deal :

760 SLI would still be my preferred choice though :

Just had a thought. Does your case have adequate ventilation? Two 760s, be it either the MSI version I linked or the KFA2 ones 'might' get a little toasty as the hot air will mainly be deposited directly back into the case, rather than exhausted out of the back. It should be ok, but I thought I had better mention it. :)

Thanks for your input. My case should be ok for ventilation as I have a caselabs SM8. The cpu is watercooled, and I have plenty of fans. Had not considered the Msi cards as I fancy a change of manufacturer as well.

Hope some more chime in with opinions here, but at the moment leaning towards KFA in Sli I think.

Yeah they should quite easily see off any single card solution.

I put my 670s against a Titan a few months back and had no troubles beating it in pretty much every test we tried.

Not seen any tests for the 760 but it should be a similar affair.

Let me offer you some advice. Never ever go with something because it's cheaper - not in SLI. Ideally you want the card with the best cooler on as the top one is going to have to work REALLY hard to remain within safe limits.

This time around my money would either go to MSI for a pair of their 760 gaming cards, or, a pair of EVGA cards with the ACX cooler on. I've seen the latter selling USE OCUK PRICES

If your board can handle triple slot cards? the Palit Jetstream 760 generally tends to sell for around the USE OCUK PRICES.

DO NOT even think about SLI two of the stock cards with blower coolers on. They will drive you to insanity when the top one will need the fan on 80%+ for most of the time.

Thanks greatly for your input. I fully realise that in Sli the top card will suffer with heat - that is why all the options I have chosen have non reference coolers. The Kfa 760 oc cards have apparently very good and quiet coolers as reviewed by a member on here. On further reflection I think 3 slot cards in Sli will not be possible on my board as I have a soundcard to fit in as well - so I think it would be too tight on tolerances. Although I felt I wanted a change from Msi - I think your suggestion of the Msi gaming card may well be worth considering. It is a pity that ocers don't sell the EvGA 760 cards - no idea why, but would have to source elsewhere, but do like the idea of EVGA for there warranty/quality.

400 budget I would go for 2x7950s or 2x760s as you want to go NVIDIA.

Crossfire doesn't work properly.

Edit. haha just realised it's you Mark :D glad the card is still going strong mate :D

Yeah you won't go far wrong with the 760 ACX tbh.

Hi Andy,

Yes it is me - the 6970 is still fine, but...... Yep I think I may go for the EVGA 760 ACX, trouble is one or two ????

Hi Mark,
I came from 6970 Crossfire to a single Gigabyte GTX770 windforce 3 and it blows me away how fast and smooth it is gaming.

I will go SLI one day but for now this card I think is a great buy.

Thanks for your input, but are you gaming at 1440 though? The 770 windforce is a nice card I must admit, but I might just go for an EVGA though as I have not had one of there cards for quite some years now.
