Enabled the perf overlay and got this.

Obviously this is showing a gpu limitation but is it meant to spike so far up?

I then enabled a fps cap to lock the framerate to 62 and got this.

So obviously I'm somewhat gpu limited, just wonder why it spikes up so much when the frame rates unlocked, suppose its showing more of a limitation because the cards doing more? I still get the occasional spike up the screen but nowhere near as much as if the fps were unlocked, in the few minutes I left the fps unlocked it was basically a wall of green the whole way up the screen as you can see in the first pic.. This is all at 4800x900 high settings 2xAA.

I think you're CPU limited due to a combination of 3 GPUs and a resolution of 4800x900, due to the way triple resolutions work in that the side monitors are distorted a lot, it's not quite the same as the same amount of pixels on a larger screen.

According to a post I've seen by dice, if I was cpu limited the green graph would be below the yellow graph. its not however, just trying to figure out why the gpu graph spikes so high.

Have you monitored your CPU usage through task manager in both situations?

I had it running on screen at one point with a program, was noted in another thread but it was getting good usage, can't recall how much but it was pretty high. Might try tomorrow disabling hyper threading and see what difference it makes to the in game graph. Then try disabling crossfire to see if the gpu graph spikes higher. I very much doubt id be cpu limited, I seen benchmarks a while back and even an intel 6 core overclocked made little difference in framerates.

What does it show like on a single screen Gerard, im at 1920x1200 with sli 670's. my 3770k at 4.5ghz is probably equivalent to a 26/700k at 4.8ghz. I monitor cpu/gpu use in game with afterburner and coretemp. Cpu hits 65% usage, gpu's max at 99% use.

Well done some testing with crossfire disabled running on the 6970, oddly enough both lines were In perfect sync overlayed on top of each other, only spiking when I took a screen. And the weird thing was it was pretty playable at around 35 fps with the same settings which I wasn't expecting.

I'll try single screen tomorrow with 1 card and crossfire. On Eyefinity all 3 gpu;s were around 95-99% and the cpu was around 70% usage from what I can remember.

A while back i was running an i5 3570k, same res and same cards in sli. Cpu use was 92% max, gpu use wouldnt go above 80%. 3770k is like night and day. Bf3 loves i7's especially with multi gpu setups.

Yup, took a while for amd to get their drivers sorted out, when I first got the 6990 it was only getting around 60% on each gpu till it was fixed for Eyefinity. Interested in seeing if this new driver with the Microstutter fix changes much, as I can still feel some choppiness when running at 60fps locked.

I dont run with an fps cap or v-sync tbh, despite being on a rather old 1920x1200 monitor. Ive had an awful lot of sli systems over the years, the last time i encountered any stuttering was with 6800 gt's on a64 939 skt. But i am considering either a 120Hz 1080 monitor, or a 27" 2560x1440 soon. Still undecided.

Only reason I cap the fps now is the Microstutter, it seems to be less noticeable (in terms of feel) with a locked framerate. Its still there but not to the extent it would be.

Im considdering locking the framerate now tbh, with the recent heatwave my top card is running quite warm. 78c in grid 2, bottom card never go's above 60c. Non reference nv 670's, worst thing is that the top card on it's own is a very high overclocker, +130 core, +770 memory. On its own at those clocks it maxed at 67c. The bottom one isnt as good, +50 core, +500 memory.

Ended up trying it with 1 card then 2 with ultra settings, was playable on one screen with the cpu and gpu in sync, when I turned it to ultra across 3 screens the results were basically the same as the first pic posted at the top of the thread.

You should try RadeonPro Gerard, if you don't already. I could give you several different things to try.

Tried it before in another thread and bf3 refused to launch with it, just opened separate battlelog windows and that was it. Already tried the alternate crossfire rendering using ccc.

I can give you a config to try? What vsync settings do you use, would you prefer it on or off?

Prefer to run it as I am currently, good settings with decent frame rates :) Just not too fussy with messing around a lot with it.
