Buying a basic smartphone

A Lumia is probably a pretty good choice, the app selection isn't quite there yet but it's got all the major things and Windows Phone is very simple and straightforward to use for the most part. Got my step-dad a cheap one a while back and as far as I'm aware he's getting on well with it.
Lumia 620 sounds like a good option. Right price too.
Just need a SIM card for it now, what is decent at the moment for SIM cards?
Depends on what she'll need it for I guess. I switched to giffgaff recently due to their goodybag offerings (the one I have has unlimited texts, unlimited data, and 250 minutes for £12.99 a month), so if she wants to use Facebook and such on the go, stream music etc. (granted the coverage is good there as they do run on the O2 network) it may be worth looking into their Pay as you Go SIM plans.

Really pleased with their service so far. If she ever wants to change her plan, it's completely hassle free as all you do is log into the website and change to something that suits you better. You can also pay for a month at a time, or set it to automatically renew each time it reaches the end of the "subscription".

I switched to GiffGaff a couple of months ago & get 1200 mins Unlimited Text & Unlimited Data for 20 quid. Bit gutted I couldn't give you a link so I could get a Brucy Bonus though.

Giff gaff really isn't that good anymore. There prices have gone up and others have come down.
Plus you have the downside of it being O2 with there rubbish network. Can't understand why people still recommend Giff Gaff. Switch a while back and no regrets.
One plan
Glaucus - can that plan just be refreshed each month without entering some kind of contract? Reason I went with giffgaff was because at the time I wasn't looking at anything with more than ~200 minutes of voice minutes and unlimited data and they had the cheapest offerings by quite a bit (or at least the plans I saw from others were on contracts as opposed to giffgaff's pay as you go approach). I would like a plan with truly unlimited data (or rather one that isn't capped at 1-3GB in the smallprint), and tethering would be a huge bonus too if they do that.
It's a one month rolling contract, so 30days notice. Which is hardly an issue.
Giff gaff used to be good, when Theresa's a hundread threads about it on here, they are pretty rubbish these days, especially as its on O2 who are pretty useless.
For high users three - one plan is the dogs dangles especially as it allows tethering.
For low end you have ovivo which is FREE after a one off £15 fee and that's added to your credit balance anyway.
Then for intermediate you have loads of options.
There's also virgin which use Ornage/EE which are good, from £7 a month to £15 for unlimited everything.

Thanks for that The One plan sounds like what I'm after, but it's almost twice the price so I think I'll stick with giffgaff a little longer (I could basically get a phone on contract with Three for that price so I may wait until I need an upgrade, but God knows when I'd need that).

Nobody can match GiffGaff for pricing, 20 quid for 1200 mins, unlimited text and unlimited data cannot be beaten unless you'd like to prove me wrong.
