Hi guys,
I'm not really sure what the point of this post is, but I wanted to share an experience I had on Tuesday!
So I was driving from Newbury up to Manchester for a team meeting and staying over for a couple of days, I had a few colleagues in the car with me so was holding back on speed, cruising at about 80 in the fast lane of the M42.
I'm one of these people that keeps tabs on their rear mirrors a fair bit, so I very quickly noticed a big Audi Q5 coming up fast, I check infront and my mirrors again a second or two later and he's closed the gap completely. So I move out of the way and he blazes past he must have been going at least 120, I make a passing comment to the guys in my car about the speed and we move back into the fast lane.
Up ahead about 200 meters or so I see a lorry has moved into the middle lane, forcing a Mercedes Sprinter into the fast lane, and into the path of the Q5, the Audi was never going to stop. He collides with the rear right hand corner of the Sprinter. Dust & shrapnel go everywhere, the motorway is littered with red and white plastic, metal, glass. The sprinter has lost stability and has toppled onto it's side, sliding down the carriageway on it's side, leaving a white & silver streak. The Q5 is spinning and collides with the central reservation and comes to a rest somewhere between the middle and fast lane.
Sprinter on it's side:
Q5 with a fairly crumpled front end:
At this point i'm out of the car and running to the Sprinter, the driver (A young lady ~24) is up and screaming for help. I pull myself ontop of the van and open the drivers door. I don't know if anyone has ever had to do this, but car doors are actually really heavy, I was struggling for a little while with the door and trying to pull the woman out of the van until some help came and the door was held open allowing me to pull this lady out.
Luckily she didn't have a scratch on her and walked away from the accident, the motorway was closed for about an hour in all causing a pretty massive tailback:
But there we have it, that's my story. I thought I would share an experience, stay safe people!
