David Cameron urges internet firms to block child abuse images

It seems like a good way to censor the internet should that be the plan, I'm sure a few political websites will eventually get caught up in the censor and eventually anyone who chooses to have the porn block removed will all be stigmatised by the media as paedophiles just as all unemployed are made out to be workshy and living it large.

porn block is the stupidest ****** idea I have ever heard off.

like your branded child molestors and rapists for wanting to look at adults having sex whilst you fap...

WTF? what do they want people do to instead? go out and actually rape someone because the stigma of watching porn is probably going to end up worse with these ******* clowns we have in power who have absolutely no ****** idea

ban porn...almost sounds like some backwards ****** country now....

next women won't be allowed out in public without a paper bag over there heads incazse one of the porno peeople gets tempted to rape them or something ......

Because of the socioeconomic impact on families that are already struggling, increased drug/alcohol abuse in said families, increased poverty, domestic and mental welfare issues ...etc ..etc

Helping run our country's economy into the ground has significant social consequences and sadly one of which is child welfare including child abuse be it physical or sexual!

Am I reading that right? It seems to be saying that children whose parents don't have much money are more likely to be neglected and abused.

I'm surprised NSPCC can get away with saying that.

Well porn is restricted in the UK, it would make sense then for the government to require isps to block all hardcore material.

Why if there is evidence to support it, assuming there is some.

It would be a rubbish way for a strong authoritarian state with unassailable dictatorial powers to censor the internet, because they have the power to impose censorship openly by force.

It's a good way for a government in a representative democracy to censor the internet, because they don't have that power. They have to do it in stages, setting the foundation in place first and then expanding it over time, and they have to have excuses for doing it and methods for silencing dissent. This is perfect for that purpose. You have the option to untick the box...in the plans and probably to begin with when it goes live. Since the scheme will obviously do nothing to protect children, there's an obvious opening for removing that option by blaming the failure of the scheme on people who untick the box. That is doubly useful - it increases the stigma of unticking the box and it makes it "reasonable" to restrict the option by stages until it's removed entirely, or possibly even skip straight to removing the option if public opinion can be swayed enough by propaganda and disinformation.

Doing it by deceit, e.g. fraudulently adding to the IWF list, is far riskier and far less likely to succeed permanently because it carries a constant risk of exposure of the deception.

I can see where you are coming from but disagree with your conclusions. To me it looks just like a socially conservative party pandering to part of its voter base rather than some overarching plan to censor the internet of all anti government material.

Well movies are restricted in the UK, It would make sense then for the government to require ISP's to block all adult movies.
Lets not forget violence is against the law which means we will have to ban all violent movies too

alchohol is restricted to right , lets just get rid of it entirely

Violence is censored by the BBFC, so possibly, the government could decide to enfore a restriction on unclassified material. Do you see the issue that could ensue?

Alcohol sales are restricted online. Not very well, but who knows, changes could be made to restrict access in the future.

The point I'm making is that a government which starts the whole censorship of the internet has ready made arguments for its extension. To clarify, I don't support the block, I'm just pointing out that what you see as ridiculous has an easy supportive argument for the government.

Don't worry, it's not even going to work. When something can be bypassed by typing one word it just shows how stupid this sort of thing really is. If you want to stop people viewing porn (whether currently legal or illegal) you need to change peoples opinions on it or make the consequences bad. It's already like that with child porn but not with legal porn.

Either way even if this all does come in to force if you want to look at porn you will just need to type proxy into google... I wonder how long it'll take for kids to work that out...? Ah! Wait... We were already doing that 10 years ago to bypas school filters...

Violent porn should be banned and there's a lot of it. Violent degrading porn is mainstream now and it's become the norm. There was a time where most would be happy with some underwear catalogues now the sick stuff they need to get off on is distributing.

To quote Randy Marsh
Once you jack off to Japanese girls puking inside each other's mouths you can't exactly go back to reading Playboy.

What's the difference? If it's not illegal, why ban it?

dp is legal between consenting adults but classed as section 2 material which I'm assuming means you won't find it in any DVD's sold in the uk and the same applies for a lot of the more "hardcore" porn on the net
