Hi GD,

In need of your help again.

Received total of 4 letters for 2 people. Each person received what looks to be 2 identical letters each. (Same envelope, both sets delivered same day all have same return address on back).

One of the sets is white and I can quite clearly see the debt companies name. Though I don't know the details of the letters they are of course for a debt.

Where do I stand with this and what action do I take. If there's no response I'm guessing it will escalate so in my mind I need to inform said debt agency they no longer live here.

Just to note, I don't have ability to contact old residents. Do I phone the agency and advise them of this..I'm not keen on the idea of bailiffs turning up when it's not our debt.

So what do I do?

Don't you just scribble 'NOT AT THIS ADDRESS' on the envelope and post it back in the post box?

Thats what we do as we constantly get post for previous tenants, the letters have stopped now.

This, or just ignore them. They can't take any action against you.

I have been living here for nearly 7 years and still get them for the previous owners, Mostly from what i can tell mobile phone debts, Some are recently opened mobile phone contracts at this address which of course were not paid, I have tried to tell the debt agency's, mobile phone company's and even the police, No one cares and they still keep coming.

Also i now cannot get an Orange mobile phone contract at this address without providing proof that the previous occupant does not live here.

Silly question. When I post it back do I need a stamp. Never returned a letter through post before.

Or literally post the envelope I received and write return to send receiver does not live here.

Would calling the agency be a bad decision?

Put two lines through the address, write "Not known at this address. R.T.S" in nice big writing and circle or underline the return address. It saves the postie a job and should avoid it be redilivered by mistake.

Not your responsibility. Anything addressed to another person just put return to sender and slap an address label on it. They pay for postage.

I would post it back, I wouldnt ring them as I did this once and it was very unpleasant conversation. The lady was addiment that I was now responsible for the debt 0_o.

Later found out the previous tenants were from Poland didnt pay a single bill and went back to Poland. Finally got all the creditors to talk to the Letting agency as they owned the building.
