What to replace my Z4 with for around 10k?

I currently have a 2.5 litre 53 plate Z4 roadster which I have had for 3 years now. It's probably been my favourite car I've ever owned but it's approaching 10 years old and has now done 91k miles so it's possibly due to be replaced.

Just wondering what I should go for at around the 10k mark? Ideally want something similar but obviously newer and lower miles. At the moment it seems to be between a newer facelift Z4 and maybe an S2000.

This seems largely pointless. The facelift Z4 is still pretty much the same car. Wait until you can afford a genuine upgrade.

Well I was thinking of going for the 3.0si model which is around 70bhp more than mine I believe?

The next step up would probably be a Boxster I'd guess, but the running costs are a little on the high side for my liking.

I have always fancied owning an S2000 though, so may go test drive one of these before doing anything else.

TBH Im with Fox cant think of anything which would be a significant step up but things at that price are more of a sideway move.

But given that you've said S2000 im going to throw it out there Mazda RX-7. Not the same as a Z4 but an epic car and in budget but obviously old and all the things that come with that.

Hawker

I've had bad experiences with Wankel engines with an RX8 unfortunately, so never again. And I don't really want an upgrade as such, just a similar but newer car.

I know nothing about cars, but surely if you're counting the difference in terms of a few bhp and not a radical change, then chances are you are going to be disappointed with what you get? (Not to mention out of money a fair bit)

So the general consensus is to keep my 10 year old Z4 and hope it doesn't start costing me in repairs? Wouldn't surprise me if I got a big bill for clutch or roof motor soon...

Surprised there is no love for the S2000?

350z (313bhp model)?

Edit: I assume it needs to be used for the daily commute and hence reliable, so that rules out TVR?

I'd keep it until you can afford something significantly quicker or your needs change. I like the S2000 but it's different, not really any "better" than the z4. Maybe if you had the 2 litre (which is actually not bad in the z anyway) but you've got a decent engine punting you along just now anyway.

Roof is always a possibility but it would be in any other Z4 you looked at, clutch is a consumable really and not too expensive - you should also be able to tell if it's starting to slip or the pedal travel has significantly changed etc.

Well it's good to hear that the clutch isn't too big a bill for the Z4, always assumed it would be more than £500.

I guess I'm leaning towards an S2000 because it's similar but different. It's on par with the Z4 but would give me some variation in how it drives. Also 10k would probably get me a decent 07 plate one.

10k seems like a lot to spend on a 6 year old Honda. It probably handles better than a z4 but it's hardly 5 grand better. Fairly low rent inside, too. As design it's 5 year older than the first gen Z4.

Yeh, the interior and the fact it has been around since 1999 are the things that put me off a bit.

Maybe save up for a Boxster then.

i have an s2000 and asked this very question.

the response was..nothing much better for 10k, everything is a little more than that and the s2000 has been best car ever for reliability

i chose a s2 over z4 initially due to steering.

i dont mind the interior as i dont like lots of gubins in a car. Only a few lights, rev counter and digital speedo mainly.

mines an ap1 and i did think about an ap2, but this wasnt a popular choice on here, but im still tempted
