Ginger rights march - Edinburgh

Excellent I see an opportunity to make a mint

10th August pop up sun screen store in Edinburgh woot

When were gingers ever gassed, enslaved or murdered for who they are? Never, get over it, deal with it and move on. Dye your hair if it bothers you that much, or stand up for yourself. All this will do is isolate people with red hair even more.

Actually gingers have had their hard times throughout the last few thousands years, here's a quote from Castiel,

It comes from a medieval belief that Red Hair was associated with witchcraft and could mean that te person was either a vampire or werewolf depending on the region.

The Malleus Maleficarum Gives certain markers and indicators on how to discern witches and demons, red hair was thought to be a sign of immorality and promiscuity....mainly due to the inherit Roman descriptions of the northern Caledonian tribes which has a high incidence of red hair, and the assumption that they were wilder and less civilised than normal men.....

Add to this Egyptian prejudice where they used to sacrifice redhaired men to their Gods in return for good harvests and the further negativity and demonisation spread by Shakespeare and by its association in Western Early medieval crusader culture with Mohammed and Judas.....

In England there was also the association during the Civil War and Cromwellian Puritan Periods with the Scots and Irish and the prejudices and demonisation therein.

All in all, Ginger hair people are pretty much ****** in Western Europe, especially in Spain and along the Mediterrean, not to mention England.

This simply didn't translate in North America, probably due to the large immigration from the Irish.

Some even believe that Adam had a wife/ladyfriend before Eve and that she was a redhead and possibly became, or symbolised, the devil tempting Eve. Google it.

But at the same time some believe that Jesus may have had red curly hair, again google it for more.

I used to date a red head, green eye, freckles her hair was amazing.

I had a terrible time at school with bullying, all because of the colour of my hair. Even to this day at the age of 35 I still get the odd moron who'll hurl abuse in the street, even had cars slow down so they can yell abuse about my hair colour!

Got no problem with the odd joke and no its not as bad as racism but when there people are who get seriously nasty and violent because of the colour of someones hair, something should be done about it.

Oh and its true, we have no souls and I'm a true blood (pale skin, red hair and freckles) :p

That can't be his actual hair, surely? He looks like a cabbage patch doll.

I think his name is Carrot Top.

This makes me mad. Console yourself with the knowledge that anyone who ever bullied you is a massive tool.

the real question is why do you believe that it is socially acceptable to "make fun" of gingers?

When did I say that? I never.

I am against all forms of bullying. The reason bullying against red heads gets over looked is because there are far worse cases of discrimination that needs sorting out.

All this march does is single out gingers even more in society. It makes it seem like red heads are a different race. Its a dumb march and nothing but fun will be made of it.

i doubt as an adult if someone came out with similar stuff to what they present when you were a child it would be socially acceptable but ginger "jokes" seem to be socially acceptable.

So long as it's just jokes, why's that a problem? Black jokes and jew jokes and the like, they're a problem because there's history there. There's a context that makes those jokes not okay. But gingerness doesn't have that kind of backstory, beyond schoolyard shenanigans. Yeah, I was bullied for being ginger at school, so I learned to grow a thick skin. As an adult, the ginger thing never comes up (possibly because my hair has darkened somewhat, but never mind). If kids aren't bullying each other over hair colour, you can be damn sure they'll find another reason to bully each other.
