blank screen when returning from sleep

if my pc has been left on long enough to go in to sleep mode all I get is a black screen when I click the mouse to return it from sleep
the monitor is getting a signal, it says so in the input menu thing, 1920*1200 active digital etc

if i press the reset button on the front of the pc this just makes it shutdown
when I switch it on again there is still this black screen (monitor still recieving a signal tho). I then press the reset button again and the pc shuts itself down once more
THEN when I restart it everything works as normal, until it goes in to sleep mode again

that is the process I have to follow to get a display after it has been in sleep mode, it never used to do this, just started doing it a few days ago

I have tried updating the graphics driver
it's running windows 8, gtx 470 card, e8400 cpu, ip35 pro motherboard

any suggestions to this strange (but consistent) problem ?

TBH, I stopped using it years ago. I find it either works or it does`nt. I tried all sorts and nothing ever fixed it.

I kinda have the same problem with my PC, whenever I try to use Sleep or Hyper, it just restarts the PC or it won't turn on.

First time I used this was with Vista and suddenly one day it stopped responding. I had it all set up to wake if I moved the mouse. But then it stopped and I had to do a hard reset. Windows solution to the problem was a link to Asustek for, wait for it, Cool n Quiet update. :D
And now with Win 7 Ultimate for the last couple of years, some months after installation, I had a similar problem.

it's either a bios bug that needs addressing or memory related as it saves/resumes from memory

how would I go about trying to find/fix the problem ?

the pc has now started doing the blank/black screen thing everytime I switch it on (when it has been shut down properly previously)

so everytime i switch the pc on now i have to press the reset button twice (first press does nothing)
once the pc starts up for the 2nd time it works as normal

enable x.m.p for your memory if it supports it

not sure what board/cpu you have but maybe one/two clicks more dram voltage and cpu/vtt (memory controller voltage)

hmm, tried raising the voltage but no difference
it gets as far as showing the blue windows sign and the countdown clock thing but then just goes blank
always works after another reset tho

bit worried it's just gonan stop working one day

any ideas ?

i'm thinking i'm gonna have to re-install windows or replace some piece of hardware, but dunno where to start

wouldn't mind a full new pc but wasn't really planning on it!

ya know, I was convinced this problem just started happening out the blue
thought about it and it's the drivers for an old PCI Win TV card I installed recently
the card's still in the pc but by disabling it in device manager the prob is fixed

cheers yashiro...
