Vauxhall insignia, any good??

Beware of the Nav - it does not support postcode lookup.

I'm sure in most of the Nav units you can input a post code in the city box. Not obvious, but it's there.

P.S. I think Moeks has it spot on.

Also the Insignia is usually cheaper to buy as there are more of them around.

Sorry but an Insignia is WAAAAAAAAAAY better than a Vectra - and I'm a Ford fanboy!

Sister in law's hubby has an Insignia for commuting twice a week between Blackpool and Bristol and it's fine.

But its still a vauxhall, and for that reason alone i'd never have one. I'm not a fanboy at all. I 'm a mechanic, I see so many broken vauxhalls on a daily basis, by far the most common cars to have minor and serious issues.
Take 4 weeks ago, 09 plate insignia, just in for first MOT, 31k miles. Customer dropped off, I went out to start it, wouldnt start, sounded as if no compression.
In the end it was one of the gears that links the 2 camshafts broke, bending all the exhaust valves.

Wow, sarcasm detectors broken today?

Do you actually know this or are you just a Ford fanboy?
In all honesty, I'm not a massive fan of Fords but I can appreciate them for what they are.

You drive a cheap Z3 dont you?
Cheap is a relative term. Worth a lot more than in the UK anyway.
But yes, it's 12 years old now.

Don't you drive a cheap Lexus and a cheap Porsche? :p

I'm a Vauxhall fangirl and even I'd take the Mondeo over an Insignia any day of the week. I was unimpressed with the one I drove in terms of style and how nice it was to drive in comparison to the Ford.

That's what trolls drive these days :D

I have one and so do a few of my colleagues in work, company cars all ordered at the same time, I am the only one not to have any problems which in comparison to the rest is amazing, broken hoses, gear boxes, etc.

60mpg isn't achievable with the 2.0 CDTI 160, not even down hill with a tail wind.

Ive drove a insignia and own a Mk 4.5 mondeo, and to be fair the insignia is a much better car than the Vectra ever was, but as in terms of ride, performance the mondeo is a much better car than a insignia, I drove a 1.8 petrol insignia and it was very underpowered compared to my 1.6 ecoboost mondeo, and the thrill weren't in the ride like it was in the mondeo.

I can get from mine 32-33 mpg around town to 42-45 mpg on motorways which for a petrol and quite a heavy car im quite impressed with. So the insignia is not a bad car come a long way from the Vectra, but still not on par with the Mondeo IMO.

Slightly off topic but has anyone here driven the VXR?. Seem to recall James May said it was pretty good when TG tested it?. Just curious.

Yes,but I don't go around calling people peasants :p And it isn't cheap to run ;)

Hardly relative though, cheap to buy, cheap to run :D

I drove an Insignia 2.0 CDTI (5 door) as a rental a while back and thought it was good as a motorway cruiser but utterly lifeless for anything else. The cabin seemed a little cramped due to the excessive amounts of curved and bulbous fascia everywhere but generally comfortable. Also the boot was huge.

Just picked up my new Insignia (my 3rd one).
Switched from a 2.0 Diesel, to a 1.5 Petrol Turbo...I hear you have to run the petrol cars in before they start giving fuel efficiency is that correct?
At the moment my economy is really bad

They do get sightly better but you'll probably find it's never going to be great. Wrong engine choice for economy.

Thanks Prophet, I mainly use the car around town picking/dropping kids to school etc...would have thought a smaller engine would be more economical. Does the type of fuel make a difference? Current using shell more expensive than Asda what I used to use before

Small petrol engine in a large car won't ever give you the economy you're looking for. Ideal for nipping around town being a taxi for the kids.

Generally diesel is better for economy on longer trips but there won't be much in it with the 1.5 petrol around town.
