I'm a big Diablo 1 fan. D2 was good too but I probably prefer the dungeon grinding of D1, honestly. Also loved the class overlap, with warriors and rogues also being able to use the same spells the mage could.
Anyway, recently bought Torchlight II in the Steam sale. Have put in a few hours and got to level 30 on normal difficulty. Not been overly impressed, really. It seems pitifully easy for starters. My engineer (melee character) found a 20% life-steal item early on, and is un-killable so long as I keep hitting things. I've died once the whole time due to extreme carelessness. And in the first 20 levels or so I don't think I even used a potion...
My other problem with Torchlite II is that there is very little excitement in finding magic items. They drop off every second monster, and it becomes almost a chore to pick them all up and look at them. The item progression seems wonky too, I've had many level 30 items drop with *much* worse stats than level 15 stuff.
I guess my final gripe with Torchlight II is that I've only upgraded the very first skill the engineer comes with, because all the later ones seem to do very similar things, and the 1st one is hugely powerful anyhow. The skill trees seem almost redundant. There are some passives which I've invested in, because that way there are less buttons to click
But basically I've used one single skill to beat the game up to level 30. Imagine how repetitive that is!
Moving on to other games, I've yet to try Path of Exile, or Titan Quest, and I think I ought to put down Torchlight II and give them a whirl instead.
PS, does anyone know where you can get Diablo 3 for less than £35? Blizzard must be making $$$ off that game, as it hasn't had a price drop in the two years it's been out.
