Brits moaning about Britain

This i hate about uk

lack of swimming pools
quality of the housing
"power" showers
showering in a bath
the lack of consistent summer months
over crowded and small roads
over priced trains
the bbc

there are also good things but negative seems more interesting

Lack of swimming pools? build you own? Not enough money, that's your problem isn't it?

Quality of housing...er, have you seen the shanty towns in Brazil or slumps in Mumbai ? Or government housing in Hong Kong or Tokyo?

Power showers...get a better one?

Shower in a bath - again, get a shower built.

Lack of consistent summer months...The weather hits 30c and it makes it headline news and they issue "warnings", I find it laughable coz i was in Hong Kong in April last year and 32c with 90% humidity, in April !

Overcrowded, move out to the country side, it is not overcrowded everywhere, it may be in the cities but not everywhere.

Overpriced trains - something we agree on...

The BBC - That's your choice, don't get a TV. It'll still be there even if you live in France.

So, you're in that country and looking at it's breathtaking scenery. Where do you go after you've finished looking at it? Another country? This is my point.

A lot of countries have a whole range of breathtaking views. We have fields, few mountains, few spectacular lakes etc. it's green lush and nothing that will kill you. Other than that it's very samey, outside a few national parks.

Also it's not a Brit thing, it's pretty much a human thing. Everyone complains about their country.

I'm not really sure what your point is?

Somebody said we have some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. I disagreed, but went on to say there are few places I'd rather live than the UK.

And we don't have spiders that kill.

/thread

An Englishman is going to Australia for a holiday. He's scared of spiders and has become rather worked up about the multitude of deadly poisonous spiders that everyone knows Australia is full of. By the the time his plane lands, he's in a bit of a state. He rushes into the nearest place he can get a drink...but what about the deadly poisonous spiders? Everyone knows Australia is full of them! He checks under the seat before sitting on it. He checks the ceiling - deadly poisonous spiders can climb everywhere and drop on his head and kill him! He's not safe anywhere in Australia!

An Australian, who's seen this sort of behaviour before, strolls over and asks if he's checking for spiders.

Englishman: "Yes - poisonous spiders! I read online that Australia has spiders so poisonous that they could kill an elephant! Is that true?"

Australian: "No idea. I've never seen any poisonous spiders. There aren't any around here."

Englishman: "Really? None? Australia is full of deadly poisonous spiders, everyone says so."

Australian: "Maybe they do, but it's not true. You get deadly poisonous spiders in some parts of Australia, but not that many and none at all in this area. Not a single one."

The Englishman slumps in relaxed relief.

Australian: "I reckon the deadly poisonous snakes ate them all."

Just one simple point. We don't have the biggest and best of anything but what we do have is a culmination of great things within easy reach. The whole is better than the single impressive feature.

Britain is wasted on the British.

Human nature to be honest, grass is always greener on the other side and people take things for granted and all that.

Living here you don't get exposed to the extremes and don't realise the "averages" is a blessing.

Quoted for absolute truth! :)

I have a month to go until I'm back in good old Blighty after living abroad for 7 years and I can't wait.

There's a few things to moan about but nowhere is perfect yet the UK is still easilly one of the top 5% of countries in the world to live in, without question. Even when it's not so good in one respect it balances it out in another.

The truth...Britain is one of the best countries to live in the world, it isn't until you live elsewhere that you realise just how damned great Great Britain really is.....it is no surprise that The Anglosphere is so popular given the Template.

I've lived in the North, the South, the East Midlands, Scotland and now Lincolnshire and I can say I love The UK more than ever.

We have diverse cultures, great architecture, gorgeous countryside, good beers, traditional pubs and all the niceties we take for granted.

It's not always so perfect abroad.

Those poor Northern Irish :'(

After recently becoming far too familiar with the NHS for an extended (and ongoing) period of time I thank science I'm in the UK.

Aside from a few minor quibbles, my treatment, support and standard of care have been absolutely outstanding and all for free as and when I need it.

This.

I live in the foothills of the Rocky mountains, which are truly staggering obviously, however I didn't appreciate how green and beautiful the British country side was until I left. There is also an incredible amount of variety packed into such a tiny area in the UK. There is almost nothing interesting for 1500 km to the east of where I live until you hit Ontario!
