Brits moaning about Britain

This.

I live in the foothills of the Rocky mountains, which are truly staggering obviously, however I didn't appreciate how green and beautiful the British country side was until I left. There is also an incredible amount of variety packed into such a tiny area in the UK. There is almost nothing interesting for 1500 km to the east of where I live until you hit Ontario!

Exactly, and then you reach me. :D

I was thinking the other day, we have it fairly good at the moment.
Recession isn't anywhere near as bad as say greece, spain, etc
Winning a lot of sport recently, Olympics, Tennis, Rugby, Cricket, Cycling, Golf.
We actually had somewhat of a decent summer so far, and it's given me the vitD I needed.

The UK has beautiful countryside, classical architecture, a great history, variable weather and minimal corruption. You can also be fairly assured that the banks won't take your money and stuff like pay and pensions and law is pretty robust.

Downsides are the cost of living, high property prices, beurocacy, high levels of incompetence, dreadful management, sliding education and healthcare, tax, ever increasing divide between middle classes, rich and poor, people motivated purely by money and doing what they can to get it, forgetting the human side, a general lack of family....

The people that have been somewhere else (for a holiday) are the worst. They get a pleasing snapshot of what a country is about and assume that's the way the country is every day. If they lived there for long enough they'd be wishing they were back in Blighty.

I'm still in NZ 3 years later and don't wish I was back. I used to moan all the time about hating the UK and when I had the means to do so I escaped and have never looked back. The only thing I miss about the UK is OCUK but that works anywhere woo :D

What IS annoying though is the people that moan and do nothing about it...

I love England, prefer Scotland... But that's because it's my home. However, the world has a lot more to offer so just sitting on this island and waiting for my time is boring.

HOWEVER, I agree, people moaning about it drives me insane. Specially in my work, it's all you hear "ah, thank god that heat wave is over!!" It wasn't a bloody heat wave!!!! It's just summer!!!!

Complain when it's hot, complain when it rains, complain when it's cold, complain, complain, complain, moan, moan and more moaning.

I think it's just the British way, to complain and moan about everything. Drives me up the wall.

Irony is, I'm having a moan now lol.

The weather and government are often lousy but don't we live in one of the most beautiful places on earth?

Our own folk seem to be under the impression that living almost anywhere else (with the exception of war zones) is preferable to living in Britain. The amount of hours of sunshine a place has appears to be ranked higher than anything their own country might have to offer.

For what it's worth, I think we're blessed to live here.

I used to moan about Britain, then i went to Pakistan, it has it's ups and downs but i'll tell you one thing, i wasn't appreciative of where i was born and live all my life until i visited the birth place of my parents and i gotta say i was glad when i came back.

The only place that I have lived outside of Britain is Florida and while I enjoy red necks, thunderstorms, intense humidity, poisonous snakes where I swim, casual racism, terrible conditions for the under class, cockroaches on my underpants and an all pervading ignorance which makes conversation beyond small talk all but impossible, I was very happy to come home.

I like Britain...It has some wonderful areas. I live on the east coast and enjoy the beach and the countryside. I have no neighbours and two collies running around.

I pass maybe two cars on my 15 mile commute into work on my Motorbike

But sometimes the UK is depressing.Weekend drinking in cities gives me the creeps and the dark winter nights and drizzle...Oh and seeing fat people in chip shops :p

You know i was the type that thought that a stress free job on low pay was better and wasn't that greedy at all. I was so selfless on every part of my life that I got so fed up and depressed that i came to the realisation that i was truly unhappy.

So 5 years ago i started becoming selfish and greedy. Now i am 10x more happy then i have ever been in my whole life. Better job, much better pay, better gf that doesn't fuss or complain for every single reason because i come down hard on her if she tries (or kicked to the curb if she doesn't change). More free time and more disposable income hence i can do more things that I want to do, better relationships with my family because they know they can't treat me like a doormat or they can go **** themselves.

Selfish = happier there i said it, i'm truly much happier then i have ever been.

What I find more strange is the number of people who say that we should feel brilliant because we don't have the issues of certain other countries / have it better than they do. Well we damn well should! For the wealth this country has enjoyed and our history, we should be another Germany. As it is, the country is great, the people and attitudes, not so much.

If people didn't complain then we wouldn't seek to improve things. The fact that we acknowledge issues and still don't address them worries me.

that's the spirit:rolleyes:
