Hi, Ive had my computer for quiet a while now and i decided to have ago at overclocking the CPU but for some reason i cant overclock it via the BIOS it just wont allow me to acces the CPU Freq and FSB clock!

My build consists of

XFX 780i triple sli po6 Mobo
Intel core 2 quad Q8200 (the poo one) With corsair H60 WC
4GB of 666mhz ram (highest being 800 but is dumbed down by the rubbish ram)
Palit GTX 465
WD 1TB HD
and a antec 700w PSU
And with plenty of air flow

Here are some pics of the bios

Any help would be great, im only aiming for around 2.66 and if thats stable go abit further

Cheers

From the looks of it, your system is current running FSB Frequency at 333MHz, and the CPU and memory frequency seem to be both linked to it.

Basically:
CPU: 333x7 = 2331MHz
Memory: 333x2 = 666MHz (so the ram is running at 666MHz because of linked to the FSB frequency, not because the rams are "crap" as you said).

If you can increase the FSB to say...400MHz:
CPU: 400x7 = 2800MHz
Memory: 400x2 = 800MHz

The problem is, I don't see where you can adjust the FSB Frequency in the bios...also, the Q8xxx CPU has the multiplier capped at x7 max, so any overclock would have to be done on the FSB Frequency.

Thanks for the input, i am unable to do anything with the CPU, no matter what i do i can not access the option to change the MHZ from 333 to xxx

I am able to do so via Ntune but that dosent boot up with the OC

Update the BIOS.
You probably have an old bios version with limited support for the Q chips.
P06 is quite an old BIOS version

My XFX 780i clocks Q chips just fine.

You have a wide range of memory multipliers available so your 666MHZ RAM wont stop you raising the FSB.
My board is OK up to 475Mhz FSB with a Q9550

Cheers man, i ddi try to update it with Ntune but it says its up to date and i cant find the latest bios update :(

Never mind, found them from Nvidia

You can get a BIOS from EVGA as well.
EVGA and XFX used reference board designs and are identical.
I presume your board is the 780i SLI.

If you have trouble getting the XFX BIOS the EVGA one will work but you have to flash using /f to force.
The manafacturer ID's are different thats all.

I just checked on the EVGA site and p10 is the latest.
XFX probably have p10 as well but you need to login in to have a look there and i cant be bothered.

One random thing I learned was that pressing ctrl +f1 (or ctrl+1, I can't remember) unlocks advanced bios features in an msi motherboard I had. This might have been an oem motherboard though. Worth a shot?
