Bale stats & performances aren't better than numerous others in the league, Suarez, Mata, RVP, have him beat. Bentecke is on a par.

It's not about stats though, is it? He's British, he's exciting, he's young, he's got the potential to get even better. Every goal he scores is spectacular.

For a club like Real Madrid, it isn't just about winning. Look at how they treated Capello. It's a football club that demands to win with style.

Shirt sales hardly register on a clubs finances, and are you comparing Bale to Beckham? Not even close or even in the same universe on 'brand' recognition.

Beckham at 23/24? yes I'd say they were close, and certainly in the same Universe. Everywhere I go I see his face on a huge billboard / poster / advert / magazine etc - simply put ig Bale was at Man Utd / Real his brand / profile would go through the roof which is why Real have him at that valuation.

24, I'd have Beckham streets ahead, you forget whom he was married too.

Folks are really hyping up Bales 'brand', without sounding mean, the leading footballers in the world (brand recognition) have got a huge advantage over him, they are good looking folks. Gareth Bale isn't a looker.

This

I really don't get the whole "Bales brand" thing, he has a unique celebration (that I still can't believe he had the balls to trademark) that people know him for, but as said, he's hardly a looker, he just happens to have had a fantastic season and got a lot of publicity due to his awards he's won. It's not like he's got the appeal that Ronaldo or Beckham ever had in terms of being able to stick them in anything, from shaving ads to watches or even just pants and they'll sell like crazy. He doesn't even seem to have much charisma about him, the interviews I've seen with him, he seems a bit dreary. Rooney is marketable because he's just an ugly git who is a bit of a lad so appeals to the younger folk, it's a pretty unique case and not your typical front man to anything, but he pulls it off, partly due to the fact he was/is seen as Englands main man in football. Bale is neither on the extreme end of the marketable scale Rooney is, nor Beckham, he just sits in the middle like most players

I couldn't even see him selling that many shirts for Real, other than the initial "new signing buzz" you'd get with any big signing.

All that said, he's a fantastic player, who is definitely worth big money and he's a massive asset to any team, but people saying he's worth way more because of his brand are talking nonsense

Bale speaks good english, that's the biggest appeal. He can be understood by someone in China or Africa. Rooney - scouse talk init!

Sad end of renia's Liverpool spell. Pity he will not be able to say goodbye in person. Back door exit springs to mind but not really justified by his time at anfield.:(

He was happy to leave via the back door to Barcelona, he's kind of made his bed...

It's sad to see him go, but are we really expected to keep waiting for players to leave before we replace them? IMO We've done exactly the right thing with Reina. It's clear his form has slipped and so we've brought in a replacement before we're left scrabbling around in the market with no first choice keeper.

Are you actually suggesting that Bentecke is on par with Bale, or are you comparing a striker's stats to a midfielders?
Have you taken into account that all of those players you've mentioned (although very good in their own right) simply don't haver the same brand power that Bale has/will have - Beckham wasn't woprld class, but he knew how to make every club he went to millions in shirt sales alone.

i've tried that one in here pal, didn't sink in. btw this is the forum where less than a year ago, united fans wouldn't have minded bale if he was 'cheap' about £20m and they couldn't see the difference between bale, nani and young.

he then went on to have his best season yet and £60m now doesn't sound unreasonable to some. sounds cheap to me.

mata is a class act but will never ever be a marquee signing. bale will
