Monsanto protests scheduled in 36 countries

I think genetically modifying things has AMAZING capabilities.

And we shouldn't stop because of fear, there is such potential here. However it needs to be done very responsibly.

I mean they are on about being able to grow meat in labs soon? unfortunately with human population growing this idea can be seen as bad but it could save so much destruction cattle industry causes.

Problem with monsanto is that they have been taking over farms due to their patented seeds. Unknowing farmers who have the land for several generations end up in court due to seeds from neighboring farms blowing on to their land. They end up losing their farm or face massive legal fees which they can't pay and lose the farm to the bank. Monansto have been doing this all around the world.

The other problem is with they sell seeds that require specific chemicals to grow, they sell this solution to farmers around the world. Before they realize that they have ruined their land due to the chemicals and they can't even keep their own seed because Monsanto owns the patents on the seeds and sells grow once seeds. Monsanto then traps them in to a position where they can't farm anymore and buys the farm out. This is why there was 100s of indians farmers per month c omitting suicide.

They also produce aspartame and other artificial sweeteners and lobby governments to push anti-real sugar in order to push their artificial sugars. These artificial sugars can be addictive and lead to all sorts of problems but they keep pushing it.

GMO imo is a side issue and not something unique to monsanto, all the biotech are doing it now.

GMO has some serious consequences, a documentary on the subject, a silent forest is quite good. Basically the guys says that a lot of GMO impacts are unexpected. they make an insect resistance corn for example and it ends up wiping out an entire insect ecosystem and ultimately destroying pollination and all sorts of results, its completely unpredictable.

I think GM food is a really serious issue and of great concern to me. With that in mind, please can people stop posting Russia Today links.

.... the rest of the world however can block Monsanto's grip, as well most of us still actually like our food being of a genuine taste.

I am not sure that is true. Genetically manipulated products are dominant I am told. That means that if I were to plant a single Monsanto seed within your crop the GM would eventually take over and kill off the rest. But long before your crop would completely die out Monsanto would have you in the dock for using their product without a licence, thus forcing you to pay for Monsanto seeds and destroying the natural crop and compelling you to produce only their product ...... and the rest of us would have nothing else from which to chose. This seems to be the situation in Latin America.

Yet you see no problem in the person who quotes a link, copies the headline and does nothing more?

There's a difference to introducing information to the forum which may or may not create debate and just moaning fruitlessly while others have a discussion.

Personally I think its great that the world is going so well people have time to protest non issues like this, oh wait millions of people are staving?

Seriously, all the hubhub about GM food, our grandparents and the people before them would have loved food as good, not to mention the millions starving around the world, all these people crying because they want organic food that's worse for them and harder/costly to grow, they should just shut the hell up and grow it in their garden >.>

I do believe Monsanto are rather reckless in their quest for GM products, and perhaps mostly spurred on by greed rather than a desire to alleviate world food shortages or make advancements in bio-product technology.

Having said that, with the global population increasing at current projected rates, GM foods do seem to be the obvious answer, PROVIDED we can implement longevity studies to ascertain their potential human and environmental impacts over a period of time, preferably from independent and non-regulated bodies.

I dont see a problem with GM food and it will probably will be vital to increase food yields. But that isnt what this company is doing. These guys couldnt care less about the future, testing or openness and variability.

Most of their so called innovations just increase their profits and decrease crop yields and could be even worse in the future as they decrease biodiversity leaving whole crops weak to diseases.

Basically they are destroying traditional family farming and attempting to monopolise the the food market, which is not good, not good at all.

Any hope of an effective protest against the company will be ruined by the anti-gm nutters who ensure the whole thing will not be taken seriously.

I don't understand why people keep rolling over though, if they say you can't use seeds for independent research, ignore them, if they sue you for some seeds blowing onto your farm ignore them. Can't understand why throughout history people bend over to unethical companies and governments.

By the way to anyone posting links to the russiatoday or naturalnews websites, you should know that you have just lost any hope of credibility.

I don't know about this company but the worlds population is increasing and I think these people protesting should be the last ones to get any food when it's shorter than it is now because they are trying to stop advancements in tech.

All the people who say it'll be used to control people and the food chain this is the people behind it not the tech they are using.

Quite honestly the most moronic post I've read here all year.
