GTX780 vs GTX780M VRAM

Hi guys, I'm not sure if this has been discussed already, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me why the GTX780 only comes with 3GB VRAM, whereas the mobile version comes with 4GB VRAM? Seeing as the laptop screen will most likely be around 1080p. And yes, I know you can plug in an external monitor, but I would've thought the desktop version would come with more.

I read somewhere that there were rumors of a 6GB version of the 780, but this seems to be widely disputed.

I take it this has something to do with the production process (as the 780 is based on the Kepler - same as Titan which comes with 6GB VRAM).

As you say the 780m (680 clocked down) is Kepler using a 256 bit memory bus, so 4x 64 bit controllers at 1024mb each. Where as the 780 is 384 bit, so 6memory controllers x 512mb.

Short answer a 780M is not a 780, it is a 680.

680 uses 256bits and 780 uses 384bits

Vram 256bits = 2 or 4 gb
Vram 384bits = 3 or 6 gb
