iPhone 4s - won't turn off?

Hey guys, received this from a customer earlier today:

"Hi Jamie, long shot this but my 4S (out of warranty) will not switch off. It restarts automatically every time. I’ve done a factory reset and restore etc. but not fixed it

Any ideas?"

My first thought would be to remove the back cover and pull the battery out - does anyone know if anything untoward could happen apart from this?

none as far as I am aware , I did the same with my Iphone the other night.
I think you have to do something seriously wrong/stupid/ daft to really make a smartphone into a paperweight nowadays
