Tried to buy 4200 xbox live points as a surprise for my son from the UK's largest game etailer
had the stupid halifax secure screen pop up as normal but this time it wanted my cards last 3 digits from the back of the strip and my full date of birth......

Entered them 100% correct....
Have bought from the the website numerous times over the last few years using the same card....

For some reason the verification failed WTF kind of fraud prevention measures are these if they can't even determine a simple pattern  and understand it's me when it challenges me for the 3 digits and date of birth which I get 100% correct...

mobile phone rings from halifax automated fraud crap.

are
you
long pause

are
you
long pause

are
you
long pause
(reminded me of that arnie film where he rips out the automated taxi bot thing...)
are you mr **** ******** if so please press 1
voice so fast I can barely make out "please call numbers read at light speed.....

home phone rings and the automated crap works perfectly but asks me the same bloody questions the halifax secure crap claimed I had wrong

also oddly when it asks you to key in the day and month of your birthday it gives you an example and the example was the correct date and month of my birthday !!! spooky!

EDIT: transaction went though and the halifax secure logo loaded and went away without any user input as per normal..

still annoying though that there fraud prevention system is so **** poor!

lloyldstsb's seems to much better  I would have thought they all used the same system

Never had a problem with them either. Their automatic stuff from their internet banking is usually spot on as well.

I've never had a problem with Halifax Secure

Me neither until now I had assumed all the visa secure crap had been disabled seeing as it stopped asking for passwords years ago and just flashed straight off the screen again.

Maybe they decided to reinstate it? if so expect to be challenged because if they did it doesn't appear to have learned any patterns from past spending habits

Glad to deliver as expected ;)

In fairness these type of security systems drive me bonkers too.
I once had a refusal to take my own money out of my bank account because a computer decided it was 'unusual activity' on my account that day. Barmy.

My card was frozen once because I bought something from the US online and then ordered a pizza and it thought I was in two countries at once.

I think the user should be able to tweak these settings online for their own account, the best judge of what is constituted weird activity on my card is me!
