Fiesta ST or Mini Cooper S John Cooper Works?

I'd much rather have a Leon Cupra R over the CTR.

I like the idea of getting a £5k LCR one day, but whilst the BMW E46 330i and Mondeo ST220 still exist for the same ish price, i doubt i ever will.

Would rather be captured by the Taliban than to own a Mini as a every day car.

I only see the Fiesta as an option if you have trouble with insurance, reason why i use to have a Fiesta ST.

Get a Type R or RS 197

Mini > Fiesta.

There, I said it. Even the non supercharged Cooper is a good little car.

Never driven a Fiesta ST but i did drive my girlfriends Cooper S for a few years and i absolutely hated it. Gearbox was stiff and it didn't seem that economical compared to my DC5. If you could i would either look at a Civic Type R or Integra DC5 Type R. But i would advise you to test drive them and see what you like.

£4k - £5k is no where near enough for a DC5 worth owning..

MCS JCW!

Although I wasn't convinced of its 211bhp when I drove one, but perhaps I'm just not use to the low torque, rev the nuts off style engine.

I must be getting old :(

Even as an ST owner I'd probably say go for the Mini. MK6 interiors are awful but the MK6.5's are much better however still not really as nice as the Mini, you have to put a lot of money into the ST to get it performing to the same standard, quite thirsty too...

...they do look better however.

The mini will be dearer to run, but much faster than the ST. All this Minis are for girls talk is pure nonsense and boring.

The Mini is tremendous fun to drive and really doesn't seem to date at all, probably because they barely changed anything on the 'newer' model. I'd certainly have it over a Fiesta.

My thoughts are that the works cooper will be significantly more expensive on upkeep. And a cooper s will be more of a like for like., or at least closer.

I can't see why they would be much different, it's basically just a Cooper S with a bit more power anyway, there is nothing fundamentally different on inherently less reliable.

I think its probably the case that the Cooper S will be less reliable and more expensive to fix than the Fiesta, but I can't imagine any real difference between S and S Works bar perhaps different priced brakes or something?
