Can anyone confirm, if I was wanting to go into driving jobs ( I got a class 2 licence ) , will 9 points pretty much count me out?

I'm 95% sure this will be a no go now.

I have no idea, but how long is it until the oldest set (if it's not 9 all at once) are gone?

I think in that situation companies look at what the point were actually for, dangerous driving, undue care and attention or DD would not be looked on favourably but if there for speeding it might not be much of a problem.
I only know this as I had to ask my transport manager the same question a couple of weeks ago but I guess it will differ for each company

It depends on the role I guess, but I would not see you as a good investment and a risk based on 9 points and wouldn't bother interviewing you for a driving role.

Totally depends on the point codes.

Listening to the radio the other night a guy was trying to get a multi drop job, they would accept a drink driving conviction but not a failure to provide a sample conviction. He was stuffed.

How old are you?

Edit: Another question, how much experience in the field do you have?

If the above answers are less than 25 and none then you're screwed.

As said above, having 3 points would rule you out of most driving jobs. 9 is just a no go. Your CV would just get binned once they know you're a driving 'risk'.

Why would you want a job where you are one count of 44 in a 40 away from being fired?

And/or just being banned from driving too.

If I was sitting on 9 points, I'd be looking to keep my driving to a minimum and not actively increase the opportunity for me to make a costly mistake.

9points HGV driving?

You'll either be working for a firm who simply can't get any drivers due to poor pay / conditions / work / vehicles or a combination thereof.

Otherwise, frankly, forget it.

Agency's won't touch you and neither will hauliers of good repute.

It's not so much the fact that another 3pts and his license is toast, it's more down to insurance.

I know my employers specify no more than 6pts - for insurance reasons - and then only for certain offence codes.

Most employers for LGV/HGV work I have ever spoken to want a clean licence, in particular most will not look twice at someone who has accrued points for drink driving, dangerous driving or lack of insurance.

For speeding, up to 3 points there is some level of tolerance but beyond that I doubt many would be interested. Some are also a bit iffy about younger drivers just due to the insurance costs. If anyone would take you on you're likely to be picking up work from the bottom end of the market, basically short term agency work with poor pay/conditions and little job security.

All speeding points and I'm 29.

Think I should forget it until I get it down to at least 6. Probably just look out for the odd day driving agency jobs to get some experience.

Not in any rush to pursue it, think I will come back to it in a few years then :)

Wise move mate, tbh you'd still struggle even for the odd day on agency with 9points....

Get them down and add to that you'll be over 30 by then -which helps insurance - you will have a lot better chance. :)

Scania's right, been looking through jobs to see what there is in my area (forward planning on steroids) and waiting till 6 Points and over 25 you'll be much better as I said in my post up ahead ;)

And as in this industry you need to use agencies to get a chance and no agency will take you on.
