Misery 2.0 Trailer. Release date for July.

Not sure how accurate, but I read that a patch is due Monday.

I'm getting a lot of crashes now. Aside from a fresh reinstall, I think the only option is to wait for the patch. Now I remember why I normally buy / use things after they've been out a while. :D

i7 950 @ 4.0ghz, 12gb ram, 7950 @ 1100 1300 so should be up to it.

Most certainly!

A lot of people are reporting multiple crashes. I'd either wait for the patch, or reinstall from the summary page (exe), which is what I'm going to try tomorrow. I think part of the problem is that the engine has difficulty addressing more than 2gb system memory. One chap said to try and just select the highest dx9 setting in the renderer settings, but that didn't work for me. :/

Time for bed.

Little off topic but is it just me who gets ridiculous coil whine during the splash screens and in menus? It's terrible for me!

Not really tried the mod yet but immediately I wanted a clearer health and stamina bar. I'm not sure if you get one later but a mini-map wouldn't go amiss either. I see them as a convenience rather than a making the game easier if that's what they were going for.

It's more realistic, and I think almost everyone would agree that it's a visually better looking mod than the complete version (possibly an understatement there :)).

Complete and Misery are completely different mods.

The engine is awful when it comes to resources usage. It tops only one core and that's not enough to feed the video card and give a nice FPS. At least it can keep around 30FPS in heavy scenes, but still, it's funny to see how a i5 2500k@4,5GHz can only provide a 40-50% load on the video card at times. All in all, it uses around 2,1GB RAM, reaches 2GB vRAM and fully tops 1 core on the CPU.

On the gameplay side, the loot system is as stupid as it was before - in the previous Misery or vanilla game, fearing to give you ammunition when you kill NPCs (he fires, 0 bullets found on the body /// he doesn't fire, still 0 or 2 bullets on the body), supplies that you can buy or found on dead bodies and so on. The AI also remain as a cheater as always.

However, the atmosphere is top notch and it brings a lot of new ideas to the table, which proves once more that good games can only be done if the producer don't target the largest possible crowd or some "newbie focus groups".

Have fun! :)

Cap your FPS using something like afterburner, it'll be drawing a silly amount of frames on the 2D menus.

Patch due no later than August 7th.

Personal update : I've reinstalled the mod, and 'so far' it seems to run quite a lot better. No crashes and less stutter, but due to the amount of problems voiced by people over at moddb, I am expecting it to belly up when I load up my save game tonight. We'll see. ;)

I had it running with no problems at 1080p on both dx11 and 10.

Its a nice mod, adds tons of atmosphere to the game, but i find it too hard, so i just cant be bothered with it.

Yes, although I'm really enjoying it, there are one or two features that'll take time to get used to. I think the objective of the team here, aside from adding more realism, was to make stalker more of an rpg experience than it already was - which is fine as far as I'm concerned. However, there's a ton of loot which I think needs to be compartmentalized, which would make things easier when visiting a trader. Another thing, is that I really do not like the effect when you take a medicine kit; that doesn't add anything for me, it just detracts. The collision meshes on an npc seems too great, so you can never stand quite as close to them as you would normally. It's the odd thing like this which is a little unexpected, but as I say maybe over time we'll get used to some of them and even welcome most of them. :)

I recommend the SGM 2.1 if people are finding Misery not quite to their tastes (adds new quests and is all in all the most 'fun' stalker mod I've played), though I'd still be inclined to wait for the patch (due by the 7th) before throwing the towel in.
