Google-Motorola "X Phone" in the 2013 pipeline?

I think the device Motorola are talking about which is "very similar" will just be pretty much the exact same phone without the US manufacturing costs.

There have been leaks of a phone that looks pretty much exactly the same as the Moto X coming from Asia for a long time, this is probably the device that is going to end up on our shores.

I think Motorola knows "Made in the US!" doesn't really hold much weight here so charging extra for it wouldn't really make much sense. I actually think this could be a good thing, we may yet see a much more reasonably priced Moto X gracing our shores. I don't think the customisations will ever reach us though, it will probably be black or white only. :(

LOL @ everyone getting hyped up over this, regardless of the Google acquisition Moto have sucked for as long as they have been producing Android phones. None of this is a surprise.

Pfft. If they'd have told us from the beginning it would be US only I'd have bought a Nexus 4 months ago. Not waiting until later in the year so I'll probably just get one now.

What makes Moto say that this phone has superb batterylife?

Can't see anything special going on. At best it will have 4hrs screen on in normal use.

told you ;)

I am all over my potential sample route at the moment.. but even so it'll be a stock colour.. I badly want a mental combination.

Indeed ;)

Now to see if that much cheaper version for Europe happens...... :p ;)

Lucky man! See if you can get one sent to me too! :D :p

Think Motorola would send me out one to review for the likes of neowin.net, online forums etc.? :( :D

Have they actually said that?

I don't expect it to have mental battery life either i.e. razr maxx hd type but I would expect it to be at least as good as the gs 4 etc.

techradar - "Like most Americans, the Moto X is unlikely to ever leave its borders" lmao.

So true! :D

http://www.theverge.com/2013/7/23/4549060/motorola-using-its-own-8-core-chip-in-new-droids

It's more or less confirmed now that the Moto X actually uses a brand new 8 core chip made especially for Motorola. Which actually makes the rumoured price staggeringly low. The new chip has so many cores so it can handle lot's of background tasks like the new always on voice recognition while maintaining optimal power. They say the new chip will give a boost in CPU performance of 24% and in GPU performance of 100%...

This phone gets more and more interesting, can't wait for the event!

Brand new 8 core...lol. We told you it was nothing special:

Anandtech said:
Motorola counts the 2 CPU cores, 4 Adreno 320 GPU cores (yes, there are 4 cores in Adreno 320, which Motorola made public), and then adds two more to the fray – a NLP (Natural Language Processing) core, and Contextual Computing core. These add up to a total of 8 “cores” for those keeping count. I’m putting cores in quotes here since it’s meaningless to count heterogeneous, completely different cores like they’re something you can sum up and say more of means better. Nevertheless, Motorola makes the case that the X8 is an octacore system.

Yes but this one doesn't suck?

But it's nothing even remotely special either. Same price as top-tier phones and yet dual-core S4, battery looks nothing out of the ordinary, camera looks ok... but why would you buy it over an SGS4 or HTC One?

exactly you wouldnt! :) and thats why i said ages ago that the final price will be the big player here.. but hey "it works" doesn't mean im willing to pay more for less when that less may not work in 2 years time..

basically if moto is to keep that same price for uk when ever they release the "UKX" they're going to sell nothing..

Well for me, I would buy it over the one/gs 4 for these reasons:

- camera hardware is pretty damn good (sony were going to use this in ther xz but couldn't mass produce it in time so chances are Samsung would have used it too if possible) and so far the photos look better than the gs 4 etc. imo (although still very early to judge). Only areas where it isn't as good so far is the features area, video and audio recording probably won't be as good as the htc one either

Main reason for me is being able to capture more consistent usable shots rather than having to take a few photos of the same thing in order to get a blur free photo (especially in low light conditions and with moving objects) like you do with nearly every other phone out there.

- notification system, this is a pretty big reason for me surprisingly, although I wouldn't be surprised if we see it implemented in ROMs or a similar app comes out at some point

- design, far better than the htc one and gs 4 overall imo

- software is much better than touchwiz in my eyes

the rest of the screen factors i.e. brightness etc. will be important. Sharpness won't be much of an issue since it using a sub pixel arrangement similar to the note II.

Essentially it is easier to say, so far the only reasons I would pick a HTC one over the X is for the speakers, TV remote (which would only be used for fun) and sense V5 and there aren't any reasons why I would pick the GS 4 over it aside from the TV remote too.

1080P screen is great but not THAT much better outside browsing imo.

Only reason I would pick a HTC one, GS 4 over it would be if the rest of the screen is poor (most sites have said that screen is amazing looking, just not as sharp and that it is a joy to use/touch due to the design), battery life is worse, performance in real world usage is terrible (again pretty much all have said that the device is very smooth/fast and by the looks of it in the videos etc. I can't see any stutters, slow downs unlike what there was with the GS 4 when it was first released......) and camera isn't as good overall.

Having a quad CPU means nothing to me when a dual core S4 has proven that it can keep up with the current flagship devices very well (outside of benchmarks), loads of internal storage/SD slot and removable battery aren't important to me either.

Motorola should have had 4.3 on the X though as that would have been a pretty big advantage (at least for some of us here) over the other OEM phones since they most likely won't see it for another 6+ months :o

You'd have to custom ROM the moto just to make those huge onscreen nav buttons smaller or go PA for PIE. :p

So if your going custom ROM anyway then TW isn't a problem on the GS4.

4.3 is still buggy, rather have stable 4.2.2.

I like the on screen buttons! :p :o Although would have preferred them just to have been opaque black. It would have been great if they included an option similar to PIE even if it was only for a few areas i.e. when browsing.

Yup, if I was rooting etc. then the GS 4 would be very tempting over the moto x due to loads of development/interest in it, easy to root and flash stuff etc. but I just want a phone where you don't have to do that :p

Haven't been following user posts on 4.3? What is wrong with it?

Seen a few videos etc. of what is new and it looks like a superb update overall especially since TRIM has been enabled . Originally thought it was going to be a pretty boring crap update like the 4.2 but it is much better! Mostly under the hood stuff but it is pretty important to the end user experience
