Gareth Bale's agent has confirmed to AS that the Wales international has not travelled to Monaco with the Tottenham Hotspur squad
Gareth Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnes, has confirmed to AS that the Wales international has not travelled to Monaco with the Tottenham Hotspur squad. As Spurs prepare to face the Ligue 1 side in a pre-season friendly on Saturday, Bale’s absence sees him move closer to a switch to Real Madrid.
Bale was driven to Tottenham’s training base in Enfield at 10:20 this morning, his arrival in the passenger seat of the car suggesting that he had left his vehicle at home because he would be travelling to the Principality. However, Spurs finally accepted the 24-year-old’s request to be excused from the trip to Monaco. If forced to travel, he had threatened to cite injury and refuse to play at the Stade Louis II.
As was revealed by AS, Tottenham and Real Madrid have reached a verbal agreement over a deal for the player worth 120 million euros. The two clubs are now in talks over reducing the fee through the inclusion of makeweights in the transfer. Fabio Coentrao, who was a curiously late pull-out from Madrid’s win over LA Galaxy, has been linked with the deal. Ancelotti has also confirmed that talks are ongoing.
Meanwhile, former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has discussed the Bale situation with BBC Wales, admitting: “He doesn't want to say it, but I hear from different sources that he really wants to go now."
