I am after a tablet to watch my music video collection, or my TV shows on.

I've got an iPad 2 (and an iPad 1), but watching 1080p videos on it, is like watching films on an old CRT TV. By that, I mean it doesn't have the resolution, but it does have big black bars top and bottom.

So what I need, is:-
At least iPad size width wise, so nothing with a 7 in the title.
16:9 aspect ratio
1920x1080 resolution
SD Card support
Good (or better) quality screen.

... and it can't have Samsung written anywhere (externally) on it.

I don't want to have to stream anything to it. It will be used from maybe 1am onwards, and my media servers go offline during the night, to save on running costs. So I need storage support via either USB or SD card. It doesn't need to be mega powerful, as it will mainly be a media watching device... my iPad 2 covers day to day stuff. I don't game, so that's not a requirement either.

Is there anything that fits that bill, at a reasonable price? I had thought about the iPad 3, but that still leaves me with a 4:3 display, which I don't want. Had a look at some of the tablets on here, but they all seem to be 1280 x 800 resolution, or similar.

Not sure how up to date this is.

Yeah, that's what I'd discovered too unfortunately.

The main reason I asked on here, is that there seems to be an endless supply of what I call no-name tablets... not the major brands. I sort of hoped someone might have come across one that I hadn't heard of.

The Experia Z tablet is nice, and could very well tempt me to sacrifice my iPad 2 for one. I know it would make more sense to sacrifice the iPad 1, but that has significant sentimental value, so I'll never sell that. I'll have a read of the relevant thread, see how people are feeling about it. I don't use many iPad specific apps beyond VmcMoteHD (to control media centre on my server), so that's not a problem. And after the latest security failing from Apple (the Game of War thing), it's even more tempting.

Thanks for the info everyone, I knew this was a good place to ask the question.:)

The best 1920x1080 10.1" tablet is the Pipo M9 Pro released barely 2 weeks ago.

Given how tiny 10.1" is compared to a desktop 27", 1280x800 is already plenty. The colour accuracy and contrast are far more important but unfortunately no reviews seem to even attempt to measure them.

When you've worked as long as I have, dealing with graphics at pixel level, two things are important.

1) Representing the full quota of pixels from the source material. Interpolation, either up or down, is not sufficient from a quality perspective.
2) Colour accuracy is important, but only if you have a reliable reference to what the correct colour balance of the source material is.

Many videos these days are shot with post processing to affect colour balance anyway. So if the colours are already not true to life, then colour accuracy is less important for watching that content... within tolerable margins of course. But if I want colour accuracy, I've got a pair of calibrated NEC 20WGX2 Pro monitors that do the job fine.

If someone is not prepared to compromise on colour detail, they shouldn't compromise on pixel detail either.. from my perspective anyway. We each make our own choices.

But thanks for the heads up about the tablet, I've never heard of that make.
