Thanks gents, I'll order some wick and coil and give one of them a try. This may be a silly question, I've read a few posts now where people have rewicked the PT heads - are these the standard heads that you can buy/come with the units or are there 'special' rebuild friendly heads available?

You'll be surprised at how easy it is once you've done it a few times. The best advice is just make sure the coils don't touch each other or the side of the head. After that it's just a case of poking the legs in, popping the bung in and shipping off the excess wire.

Now halfway through my 13th week of not smoking, thanks to Elites and SkyCigs.

I know you vapers look down on us a bit, that smoke ready made E-cigs, but thought I'd throw my success story in in case anyone reading this is thinking of giving quitting a try.

I don't look down on anyone, as long as you quit smoking and it's working for you that is all that matters. I just like the customisation with e-cigs and the variety.

My Kayfun Lite arrived in today's post, my first attempt at making a coil went surprisingly well :-D a little bit high at 2.4ohm but works well.

I can't believe the difference in flavour! My Vivi Nova and Kanger Protanks won't be getting much use now :-P the build quality is also amazing! It's built like a tank.

If i were to consider a genesis style atty. What would you chaps recommend? Something that doesn't need a lot of fiddling with if thats possible, I don't have a huge amount of patience! :o

But i am curious to try one.
RSST hands down, insulated wick hole removes half the faffing around with shorts on it, as a starter genesis there isnt a better option in my opinion.

Cheers. :)

Next question, what else would i need? Mesh? Recommendations would be good. :)

Just ordered one, to see what the fuss is about.

I'd suggest 0.2 Kanthal for the wire (or a load of short lengths to try maybe some .5 ribbon) and 400 or 500 mesh .

At least that is about were I started and the stuff I tend to go back to after trying others. I'd likely buy a load of small amounts of each type then go for a bulk buy when you know if / what is for you.

Edit: RBAs normally come with enough mesh and wire for 1 try but you'd be lucky to get a good setup on the first go.

I'd also invest in a 2.5mm drill bit. Check out Todd's reviews on YouTube - mentions the "Petar K" method, which just means carefully wrapping a neat & even coil (3/4 or 4/5 turns) around the drill bit, before inserting the drill bit into the wick hole, then linking the ends of the coil to the relevant posts. You then wrap your SS mesh (I use 400, works perfick with Scope's juices), remembering to make a tiny fold down the open/rolling side to prevent any straggly bits causing hot spots. Remove the drill bit carefully, leaving your neat coil in place and (if using VV device) lower the power (I find 5W is about right) and carefully slide the wick down through the coil. Check to make sure the coils touch, if not, re-roll the upper part and check again. The trick is to be sure not to distort the coil at any point.

As soon as I learned these points, my rebuilding became enjoyable, rather than a frustrating annoyance.

I was lucky enough to find a machine screw that just fits my Aga-t, so i get perfect coils using it as the thread spacing is just right.
I still do the same as above, but i have to unscrew the bolt from the coil.

yup c9 are great. received my second kfl from them a few days back. you won't go back to a pro tank once you've got used to the kayfun :)
would aim for around 1.8 - 1.9 ohm (5/4 kanthal wraps for me) for vaping at 4v but if you're first try went well then you're on the right track. took me about 5 attempts but like anything that takes practice - it's a doddle after you've cracked it and sooooo much cheaper in consumables.

any place selling it apart from cloud 9? £8 for delivery is extortionate.

The only solution is to recoil the heads yourself. The "legs" of the coil are held in place by a rubber bung, and as the coil heats up, so do they. If you recoil the head yourself you can double up the legs, halving their resistance, and make sure they don't get that hot.

I can see where your coming from, but it will have the rubbery taste on the first toke even when I haven't used it for a few hours. One would hope that you don't need to recoil them yourself and that they might work straight from the factory.

Luckily I bought one for 12 quid, which was sent to "44" rather than "4A" on the address. The post office realised it was for me, and then the seller send another one as he must have assumed the first didn't reach me. I'm still disappointed @ 6 quid each though.

The draw is incredibly airy and I can have about 4 short puffs before the taste goes bad. These Protanks suck or I just got 4 bad heads.

Just went back to my old leaking Vivi Mini Nova. No burnt taste, much tighter draw, more vapor but slightly less taste. The only problem is it likes to leak when its tipped up or on its side, and it gets filled with condensation (although this doesn't seem to cause problems). The plastic drip tip also feels more pleasant.

Yeah I hate metal drip tips. They look great, but don't feel nice.

V_R, I suggest 0.4 ribbon kanthal wire and 400 mesh to start with. I get a 1.8ohm coil with 4 wraps with that setup and everything seems to wick fine. I actually use the ink tube from a ballpoint pen since I don't have a drill bit, but a drill bit would be better. I tend to wrap the coil in situ rather than connecting it afterwards.

Now then lads, Im looking go delve into the world of vapers in an attempt go pack in smoking the pipe.

I am aware that Im going to have to pay for quality but if i was wanting to try it out on a budget of around £25 what would I be looking at getting? If its for me I'll be upgrading straight away

For that you could get a decent starter kit. On my phone at the minute, so can't link, but if you go over the last few pages you'll find a link to one for £26. You could order a kit from fasttech (Asia so slow delivery) that has two evod atomisers and two batteries for very little as well.
