Hello.

This may not be the correct section to put this thread but it contains internet and TV so I didn't want to put it in the network/internet section.

Im currently looking at upgrading my internet and possibly sky package. Im using talktalk for the internet which is capped at 6mb. I asked them about the adsl2+ which is in the area now but they can only offer either adsl (6mb) or fibre optic.

The TV side of things we have a sky dish linked to the main TV. I wanted this linking up to 2 rooms but the electricians think it would be better to have it linked from the main sky box to both rooms and just watch free view from it (i dont mind this). Basically I only use my xbox to watch netflix so im paying for xboxgold and netflix just for netflix. Apparently sky multi room is another £10 a month which actually might be worth me getting the sky multi room as im paying that for netflix/xboxlive. Im not sure if sky multi room is £10 for one extra room and a few extra rooms.

It might be a lot simpler to just get a package with sky multi room and sky internet in one? Anybody know of any good packages? (not just for sky but that meet my requirements).

Thank You.

Sky standard internet is a waste of time, but the fibre optic I've not had issues with. The service is dreadful mind you, the people on the end of the phones are thick as pig**** and it takes forever to get through to anyone.

As far as TV goes, multiroom is £10 per room.
Might as well just get a freeview box if you're only gonna be watching freeview, or depending on your dish get a freesat box and run it off an additional LNB.

Sounds like you want a sky package upgrade, hunt around for the best deals and negotiate a little with Sky.

Thanks bud. Yeah my TV has built in freeview and so does my mums. (its mine n her bedroom TV I want linking to an dish). Im thinking get it all linked up for freeview now. The company I phoned up said its £55 an hour labour so for one TV to be linked up it will be about £60/£70. The sky dish is one side of the wall (outside) and my TV is literally the other side of the wall.

As far as internet goes I might just try and get adsl2+ package and leave talktalk completely. 16-24mb will be plenty for me.

Isn't it a big job getting the house connected up for fibre optic?

Thanks for the reply.

I have Sky Fibre @ 40 Mbps and not had any problems - just look out for deals, you will need to take their phone to get the best price but what you will learn its cheaper than BT.

The install is easy enough, BT Openreach install their fibre modem next to the master socket and you plug the Sky router into that. Yes, Sky use the BT Infinity infrastructure upto the streets green cabinet and if its unbundled Sky will have their equipment in there which runs back to the exchange.

Just got to work out some deals and find out what my mum is paying at the moment. Ive noticed its £30 activation fee. Does this usually cover the cost of them fitting there fibre modem?

Im tempted to just get an upgrade because 10-24mb will be enough for me as I am only getting 6mb now anyway.

I've moved this thread to the Networks forum, if you make a new thread in the Home Cinema & Hi-Fi forum for your TV query.

fibre medium with talktalk is £5 atm max 40 Mbps . the router you get free , they say cost £49.99 . factor in the fact the have to use bt to install it and the modem, the £30 activation is ok.

watch out who they send tho ... my job got sub-contracted by bt , anf the guy didn't give the standard new faceplate with built-in filter. the guys fobbed me off twice already on beign able to turn up to do it , think hes trying a fact one to save costs and charge bt . will eb making a quick call to TT soon

As one of the 'thick as pig****' people on the end of the phone, thanks. I really want to insult you too but would rather not have a Don provided holiday.

Multiroom is £11.25 now. Standard Sky DSL broadband is fine for me, I get 23 Meg and you're unlikely to get better for cheaper that's Unlimited.

BT infinity it says 75mb and the standard broadband it says 17mb (download speed rage 10-19mb).

Found out my mum pays a total of £60 max for calls, broadband and sky TV. Ide like to try and keep it simple and get it all in one package from sky really but I need to work out if thats the cheapest way.

Sky's package is £20 per month for 40 Meg down and 10 up. You can also get Fibre Pro which will give you the maximum you're line supports but it's £30 a month.

Speeds should be the same as quoted on the BT speed checker. Most DSL providers give the same.

LR is £14.50.

Ok. Just talking to a sky advisor now. Just a pain because talktalk either do the standard adsl limiting me to 7mb and the next one up is fibre optic. Could do with one in the middle so im seeing what sky can offer as well the the multiroom and phone

I nearly paid £70 for an electrician to come and do the wiring for another box but ive just found out sky do the first multi-room box for free and the second box is free too but you have to pay £49 for the box. Phone, internet and TV for £63 for the first 12 months then £67 after that
