I'm stumped

Hi guys,

System:
Sabertooth 990fx mobo
Phenom X4 965 BE
Corsair XMS3 16gb ram (2x8gb)
XFX 850W PSU
Sapphire 7850 2gb OC Edition
Case Corsair 600T Graphite

My system has struggled since I moved it over to my new case and I am stumped. I have just about everything I can think of and it still boots inconsistently. Sometimes it will boot, which it hasn't done for ages to be honest, or the screen stays black as if the computer is off. The odd time it gets to the BIOS but can crash within it. I've tried removing mobo battery for a while then putting it back in but same result... The PSU is new along with the case and I also got a new Heat Sink but I can't imagine that's why it's doing what it is.

Please guys, any tips or things to try would be great. I am struggling big time and have run out of ideas. I am ok with computers but I'm not the best so be gentle :)

Yeah it's possible or maybe you over tightened when securing the heatsink down. Might make sense to test it outside of the case on the mobos box or a wooden bread board etc.

Kent is a big place lol I'm not that far from (Tr)ashford

Haha I'll leave my comments out about that place :P I used to work at the Bannatyne's next to Cineworld as a trainer. Yeah I'll re-do it all see where it gets me. Thanks for your help pal

Very wise as it's the murder capital of the south, does have low car crime though so as long as you stay in your car (and keep driving) you are perfectly safe ;)

Happy to help, hope you suss it out soon :)

Hi, I am having a similar problem on a brand new build also but my problem is after the bios screen my computer is restarting and looping.

These are my specs

Gigabyte Z87X-OC Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail
XFX 1050W Black Edition Pro '80+ Gold' Certified Modular Power Supply
G-Skill 8GB Ripjaws X DDR3 1333 Dual Kit

I have noticed that we have the same brand PSU (Not saying that is the problem) and i have RMA'd the motherboard and PSU. The motherboard got the thumbs up but the psu got marked as replacement. I do not know the fault as OCUK did not mention one.

I have tried everything possible and get the Motherboard and PSU monday. I have tried 2 keyboard, 2 mouse, 4 hard drives individually, 3 sticks of working ram, f4 bios, f5 bios, all sata ports, tried with no USB attached, bios reset and leaving the battery out for 30 min.

I have a ticket open with gigabyte and even they are kinda stumped but pointed the fault towards the power supply as a 'possibility'.

This is some information from gigabyte that may provide some help (Or Not).

Dear Sir

Please kindly do as follows:
- remove power cord from PSU
- remove the M/B from the case
- only install the basic components on the motherboard
–CPU, CPU cooling fan, one memory module, VGA card (if MB hasn't onboard one) and power supply.
- make sure that 4/8pin 12v connector and MB 20/24 pin connectors from the PSU are both plugged to the MB.
- remove CMOS battery - clear cmos by short circuit of "CMOS CLEAR" pins or pressing "CLEAR CMOS" button (if available)
- wait 10 minutes - install CMOS battery & connect the power cord to PSU
- try to start the MB, it may restart a few times, please be patient
- when finally MB has started then upgrade the latest bios version from our website using Q-Flash utility
- then install second RAM stick

I hope you get it sorted!, I feel your pain fault finding.

Well I sussed it out... I left it alone for a couple of hours, came back and now it's working as intended so who knows what was up with it... Picking up all hard drives... All fans plugged in and idling at 32 degrees.... Thanks for your help :):D
