Ok, so I skipped the entirety of the last iteration of consoles, in favour of PCs and the such, but I've decided I'm going to pick something up in the next generation.

Now, frankly, I don't care about too much, they seem relatively even (let's not get into a debate please), but the one thing I really want is to play a semi-shoddy racing game.

If I really want to play a racing game, I can do so with my steering wheel and PC, but, frankly, I want something where I can just stick my feet up after a long day at work and just race casually around a track on a console of some kind.

This really means my decision on which console to get comes down to whether I feel like I'll prefer GT or Forza. I do have some childhood nostalgia from playing Gran Turismo, so that is currently winning.

What I care about really is just variety, tracks, cars, tuneability etc....

For what you're looking for I'd probably go with Forza, it's much more user friendly and it certainly has more options when it comes to tuning and customization. Gran Turismo is my favourite series out of the two, Polyphony dropped the ball a bit with GT5 and it didn't end up as great as it should have but it's still a very good game.

This is what I was just about to say, having played both, for me Forza would win it, for the points mentioned above.

I'd agree with the above comments. I was a massive Gran Turismo fan boy but then tried Forza and never looked back. I just prefer the way the cars feel on it. Also, the customisation option along with the vinyl editor are brilliant.

+1 Always bought GT since the first and was massively let down in the last one so had a go of Forza 3 that my younger brother had and enjoyed myself much more than I did with GT so now a Forza fan. :)

Can't believe this thread has just appeared, as I was about to resurrect the FM4 thread to post my views.

After about 3 months of having the xbox in storage due to decorating, I decided to have a blast on FM4 tonight. I spent a bit of time on the GT6 Academy challenge and didn't do too bad, top 300 when I last looked, so I wondered if I would struggle going back to Forza.

Apart from a slight graphical edge, especially in replays, the GT series is inferior in every way. I know it will upset a few people but that's what I think. I know it is not as good as some of the PC sims (loving Assetto Corsa btw), the feel you get with a good wheel in amazing in FM.

I have just had a race around Mugello in a Porsche GT3 and absolutely loved it.

I'm off to pre-order an XB1.:D

I'm a playstation man but Forza is the better game by quite a bit. When I had an Xbox 360, I loved Forza 3 and finished it. For me, GT5 is just too much messing about. Being made to find the right car etc. Must be Japanese, must be rear-wheel drive, must be from the 1970s etc etc. and when you do find a car that meets all the criteria, you spend all your money upgrading it to find it's nowhere near good enough. I spend more time in menus that I do racing. Playing Forza is like watching a youtube video of GT5 and imagining what it would be like to play it. Forza all the way.

I've always said GT to be better than Forza, but Gt5 is getting old, and from what I've seen of gt6 (and tried), its just a sort of refresh, but nothing extra. Far less customisation, and actual car choice (unlike having 200 cars, each with a trillion editions of them).

I find myself playing Forza 4 more often now, and look forward to forza 5.

Yup, Forza would get my vote as well. As an aside, Forza 5 is a release day game for Xbox One, while there isn't even a GT confirmed for PS4 yet (though one will undoubtedly arrive at some point), so if you want a next-gen console and a racing game, it really has to be Xbox One and Forza 5.

Bang on.

GT5 is just too ... sterile. Forza has it's rough edges but it's a more complete package, and importantly fun.

Thats the difference. Fun against sort-of-serious, a lot of options of customisation against different wheels and paint.

Only problems with Forza are the single player is soooooooooooo boring plus find public lobbies are feeling a bit empty lately and the biggest problem is Forza will lock up your XBox a couple of time a night

Mine never did once, and I played it relentlessly for ~6 months (until I had the cheevo for completing every SP career race)

Happens to me in public circuit lobbies and when playing tag, you can normally tell when its going to lock up when your paint jobs dont load

Ah ok. I didn't play online much other than leaderboards TTs etc.

I find Forza/GT online a cluster**** of retards and trolls so only race online on PC sims.

Forza 2, 3, and 4 are better than GT5 on the PS3 imho.

I don't know what they were thinking with the GUI on GT5, it's a total mess. Forza also drives much better.

I prefer GT 1, 2 and 3 on the PS2 to Forza motorsport original Xbox. GT4 was okay, but not a huge leap from GT3.

Yes, I find my fellow racers on Grid 2 (PC) to be a spiffing lot of chaps. Really clean racers, never ram into you on purpose, or try to take you off the track if you dare to overtake them.
