Yes, that stupid piece of paper that serves almost no useful purpose. I can't find mine. I've searched the DVLA site and it seems there is no option to simply request a replacement Counterpart - you have to request an entirely new driving license with requisite photos (unless they can 'find your photo' apparently).

Has anyone else had this problem? Did you have to apply to replace your entire license even though you only needed the Counterpart?

How long does the entire process take?

I wish we'd just get rid of them, grrr.

Hmmm, I just found my original counterpart (I had to renew last year). All the numbers match... presumably I can just use this?

I may be wrong but theres probably a version no. somewhere. Thats what i remember being told.

There's an issue number, which IIRC increases the alphabetic number. So if your current photocard licence states 25 then your counterpart licence should state 25A. If you replace if then presumably it will state 25B and so on...

So in short, they probably cannot tell the difference between the two.

There is an 'Issue Number' on the document which is 1 digit different to the end of the Driver Number, but other than that the driver number etc all match up.

It's only for car rental anyway, they never, ever ask but you can guarantee the one time you turn up without it is the one time they ask.

Europcar have twice asked me for a counter part. The first time I didn't have one but they were able to phone the DVLA to confirm I didn't have any convictions. There was a charge for this (I think £10 plus vat).

I've been asked in the UK but not overseas. Anyway, sorted now. I have two now :D

One call insurance require a copy of that part. I was in the same predicament as Fox so had to request another and pay £20. One Call then cancelled my insurance as I failed to comply with their request in 7 days.

They are still chasing me for their 'cancellation fee' which happens to be £106.

Do any other insurance companies ask for this?

Wow i've never even had to quote a license number to any insurer muchless produce documents. I remember vaguely Norwich Union asking for my details (name, address etc..) and verifying my license had no convictions within a minute. That was about 12yrs ago.
