Ok, to cut a pretty long story short, I got a system from here a few weeks ago and things never really worked out with it, so I had to get a refund.

I then decided the best thing to do would be to build it myself, but in the meantime I started decorating which ate into my budget. What that means is that I'll need to leave out some components and buy them later when I'm paid (around 2 weeks).

In the meantime, I want to put together the rest of the computer so that it's useable until I buy the rest of the components.

This is what I don't need right now:

Graphics card
Additional Storage
Speakers/Headphones
Operating System
Monitor (Already have 1440p)

Basically I'll need everything else (including mouse and keyboard).

Requirements for the computer are that I'm a professional photographer, so I'm looking at either an i7 or an 8350 because I need the additional cores/threads. I'll also need 16GB ram.

I know that even an i5 will beat out an 8350 in most games, but at 1440p I think the graphics card I choose when I have the money for it will be the bottleneck anyway for games that I play. So i7 or 8350 for Lightroom and Photoshop is necessary, and I'd definitely be curious what kind of builds could be done to save me money with the 8350.

In addition, my other requirements are:

Mechanical Keyboard (Cherry MX Blue)
A mouse with a scroll wheel that's smooth and doesn't rattle horribly like a cheap bit of plastic (Razer Nagas are the worst for that).
Power supply that's quiet around 600 watts. Preferably Seasonic. (not doing SLI)

Case of preference is the Corsair 540

Budget for all of this is £900

Looking to pull the trigger next week on this.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Oh, just as an addition, I'd definitely consider the H80i/100i but not the refurbs. I like long warranty.

Here's an 8350 suggestion.

You could save money by getting the 8320 instead and overclocking it, but I get the feeling you won't want to do that. The XFX PSU is made by Seasonic.

I just realised though that the 8350 doesn't have onboard graphics, so I wouldn't be able to build it until I bought a graphics card in a few weeks time :(

You could get a second hand reasonable card for about £10 or so that would do better than Intel onboard graphics. The new very basic ones are £20-£25.

That's actually what I just looking at there mate. Would do as a back up as well if something went wrong with the GPU.

I have between now and Monday to consider what to get. Can't work on a laptop any longer.

If you want to take advantage of the lower priced AMD set up I'd go for the 8320 and overclock it - it's the same as an 8350, just clocked lower. It'd also mean if you want to upgrade the CPU to Steamroller next year you'd be spending less now.

Whatever you get is going to miles ahead of a laptop, anyway :)

Went with the 8320, as it will be very simple (and safe) to OC it to be faster than the 8350.

Included a fast/large SSD as it will speed up editing / saving large numbers of pictures by a lot.

The mouse sounds ideal, but I think you should read up about mice that will suit your needs before buying one.

Water cooling.

Plenty of budget left to get a used GPU.

You have a DVD ROM selected, a burner is not much more.

The Z87-D3HP is a better board than the HD3.

Your RAM choice is poor, you can get a 2133MHZ 16GB kit for the same money - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-066-PA&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1387 - all pointed out in earlier posts.

Just concerned about the RAM mate, the voltages are higher than 1.5 which I read was bad because the controller is on the processor itself. Will that be ok?

Also, if I make the changes you suggested, is everything else fine? (Especially Power supply compatibility?) Should take me to about a grand which I think I can manage tomorrow.

All performance ram (to clarify im referring to higher speeds) runs at 1.65v, ask 8pack if that voltage is safe and he will say yes.

Me as well as many other people run ram at 1.65v with the xmp profile on Sandybridge, Ivybridge and now Haswell without any problems.

Users also pump even higher voltages into there sticks to overclock the RAM even higher again.
