No such thing as an invalid opinion in forums as long as its on topic,invalid argument is different however,opinions we all have but backing them up with valid arguments is a different matter.

I won't be buying a Win8 tablet due to being too expensive and limit range,Android tablets however plenty to choose from and great pricing,I use Win8 on my desktop PC and find it easy to use but as I stated won't be buying one of their tablets,that's my opinion with valid facts.

There are plenty of reasons why Android are doing well in the tablet market even before Win8 was released.

But surely it was YOU who claimed my argument/opinion as being invalid hence my response. YOU now claim there is no such thing as an invalid opinion just an invalid argument in forums - moot point. Yet there again we have you acting as arbiter in this matter - I find that perplexing.

I just consider that MS have really lost their way with this iteration and it's a win win for Apple. I now stick to OS X where possible as it's a more rewarding environment in which to carry out productive work. Windows 8 is more for occasional computer users, given Microsoft's history I find this sad.

Really? I must be imagining the last year that I've been using Windows 8 solidly for office productivity, MMO & RTS gaming, video editing, and everything else I spend significant amounts of time on. Yep, dreamed the whole thing .... :confused:

That was pretty funny. Windows 8 for occasional usage? Is he serious?

I like osx, but there is nothing on a mac anymore that really compels me to buy a mac again. Windows 7 destroyed OS X and made most IT departments start refusing their employees OS X, there isn't any need in a corporate enevironment anymore, as the productivity increase cannot be proven. And windows 8 is better than 7.

If you read my posts you would see I was stating why I think Android is doing well,as an owner of both Win8 and Android I can see it from both sides,but people like you seem to ignore the fact that I gave my reasons why Android is doing well.

For the record I don't think anything Microsoft or Apple has at the moment that can really touch Android tablet sales and their impact on the tablet market,it'll take years to catch up in the tablet market.

It'll take both Apple and Microsoft(tablet wise) a long time to compete with Google Android sales even if they had a " perfect OS",hardware side and pricing etc are all very important.
Btw nothing to do with me being arbiter,just another member here allowed to post and give input/opinion on the matter.

You could not pay me to use OSX ,Linux is superior and tablet wise Android is far better value over either Apple or Microsoft.
Microsoft strengths are gaming and desktop environment.
Win8 has it stands is a good OS even for desktop PCs,obviously best OS they have if you want versatility.

Windows 8 for me. I like to have a clean uncluttered desktop and having the shortcut icons on the start menu instead of a text list like all the other previous windows versions. I also like how i can arrange programmes into groups in the start menu. i have however put a shortcut to hybrid shutdown on the desktop because it's too many clicks to shut it down in stock win8.

That some people see Windows 8 catering for your more occasional user as a bad thing is fine, it's an opinion, but I would say the "occasional user" is MUCH closer to the average than a "power user".

As a general purpose operating system, isn't it about time that Windows started taking some of the donkey work out of using and maintaining a computer? Shouldn't the onus actually be on the "power user" to configure the OS to their liking? They are the experts, after all.

They could start with doing something about updates which appear just as bad as ever and long winded. Literally ever time I boot into Parallels for Windows 8 most of the productive time is wasted waiting for Windows to configure updates.

You can change whether Windows 8 updates you know (like all Windows versions since XP). You can even set it to never update, (though I would advise this) or manual updates only.

The update situation is barely any different from Windows 7, except it's a bit better behaved with regards to giving you advance warning. If you boot into the OS very infrequently then yes it's going to have a lot of pending updates.

Only fools ignore updates so not really a serious option. Given the modern UI, touch, trying to integrate two OS's into one etc. etc. then I spend less and less of my time in Windows. Most of my computing time is now in OS X which by comparison is a great stress free environment.

I guess you only log in about once a month then as the 2nd Tuesday of the month is the only time Microsoft update the OS, with the exception of the very occasional out of band update.

I use a MacBook Pro, have done for many years, and I can't say the update situation is that different between the two. About once a month there are updates pending and they almost always require a restart.

Post 173 should answer that question for you. I have used MS since 3.1 so quite a long time. However, I have had enough of the constant re-works or attempts at re-works by MS most of which fall flat on their face. Ballmer really needs to stand aside and give someone with a fresh vision a chance to refocus MS. The company reminds me of a headless chicken desperate to get in on the action - very late and already sewn up by others.

But you didn't answer the question. You were moaning about the frequency of Windows Updates, not your obvious dislike for Microsoft.

As others have mentioned, Microsoft's patch schedule is no worse than OS X.

I don't need to search online to find out something I already know first hand.

It takes a few minutes and a reboot once a month for Windows updates, and takes a few minutes and a reboot most months for OSX. That's about the extent of the difference.

What differences are you specifically referencing, please elaborate?
I use Windows 7 on my desktop, Windows 8 on my laptop and OSX at work.

The updates experience is pretty much exactly the same on them all in that I get prompted once a month, they download, install and you reboot.

It all happens in the background and unless you are using a seriously poverty spec machine you just carry on doing what you intended to do.
