I enjoyed it's simplicity.. Too many CGI action films without any real content around now days. My only gripe is that it Starred Tom Cruise. A nobody would have been better.

I have one question?

The reactors in the sea.. What were they suppose to be doing?

If these weren't human, then these must have been alien. So what's their point?

and the ending with tech 52 was a bit too far.. I think they tried to create a last ditch twist - fail!

I don't think that 49 was special. I think that the humanity was in all of them but it surfaced in 49 first. That's why the teams only had a certain period on the surface before being recalled to TET... when they stopped becoming an "effective team" then it was time to replace them.

As for the water I assume it was needed as an energy source

I will never understand peoples expectation of film? Always best to go in open minded.

Agreed. I knew of the film but not much else and enjoyed it. Similarly a few years ago I went to see Watchment with almost no prior knowledge and while a lot of people disliked it I thought it was great.

I enjoyed the movie, hated the ending massively, way too Hollywood like especially considering how 'special' tech-49 was meant to be.
Hated the whole romantic thing with tech-52, who hadnt AFAIK shown any distinct humanity and how easily they got into the Tet, independence Day style
There was enough substance there to keep the movie entertaining but agree there was no real depth which is what I guess the critics were after. I doubt those blanks were left to allow the audience the ponder...

I applaud the director and d.p., loved the cinematography, best bit about this film, though the sound effects for the machinery and guns was also very, very good. More I think about it the more this felt like a good game than a movie. You can tell its based on a graphic novel as the drones, helicopter and their living quarters were so well thought out...

How young are you guys when you see glaDOS before you see HAL9000 :p

ps3ud0

feel the same way

I really like the sound and cinematics but the story was a bit sketchy, if I saw this at home Id prob of given it a lower rating ... but in a theatre it was a nice pic to see

not long got back from seeing this and i thought it was great. i'm so glad i knew nothing about it beforehand. as there were no credits at the beginning, i was quite surprised to see

morgan freeman

pop up half way through. i honestly had no idea he was in it.

i thought the sound was excellent -it really made the drones menacing right from the start.

my only criticism is the last minute. it could have done without that.

it definitely needs seeing on the big screen. it looked fantastic. well apart from one scene on the bike with whatsherface on the back - that looked a bit ropey. :p

Watched this today a film of two halves of which I enjoyed the mystery of the first.

Whilst the film centered only around Jack and Victoria it more than held my interest. I thought Andrea Riseborough was excellent and whilst the movie held Cruise back from being typical Cruise it held it's own.

Once the other characters started to appear along with the action in the second half of the movie and Cruise was unleashed, it all started to become cliched and I found myself knowing exactly what was coming and how the story would unfold. That ending!

It might not be the best Sci-Fi in the world but it was enjoyable enough. 6/10.

Saw it in IMAX, which IMO makes everything more engrossing. It was a reasonable film to watch, I didn't find myself getting bored at all.

It is very derivative of other works, the typical Tom Cruise one man army film, Independence Day, Moon etc but it manages to keep you entertained. Like most people I preferred the first half when the background wasn't revealed rather than the action and dull love story of the second half.

Still worth a watch though.

Saw this last night and enjoyed it too, although I'm a sci fi fan so biased. 7/10 for me, which I class as good :)

There were a few technical questions but best just to ignore them it's not really part of the film. A lot of it was slightly trasnaprent but that didn't get in the way of 2 hours of fun.

One of the things that did annoy me that nobody has mentioned:

Why were drone spare parts etc so hard to come by when there were multiple zones (presumable) all over the planet?

Its a good solid film and worth watching for scifi fans.

Cruise was good in it (still a great action actor and still can't believe he's 50+). I think the other characters would have benefited from some more screen time, but overall the visualisation aspect was just great. It all seemed believable and the tech. looked like it would work which always helps.

Bit predictable in part, but still enjoyable.

I am quite shocked at the some of the postive replies to this thread, the GF and I went to this on release and we came away and thought 'what was that...'

I can't say I enjoyed it. Tom Cruise's whitened teeth smile made an appearence way too often and the corny last line. Oh dear, oh dear.

I'd give it a 3 out of 10. Not even worth a DVD cheap bin purchase for me.

Watched it last night and found it enjoyable to start with but far too predictable and derivative. Once the plot starts to unfold there are massive plot holes which make no sense . The first half does build well and raise expectations of an interesting ending, but they seemed to run out of ideas and just merge ideas from other movies, with a cheesy ending 6/10

It soon becomes apparent that they were clones like Moon, the memories, the mind wipe and being relieved after 5 years.

Once that becomes clear it goes straight into The Matrix territory with an alien race/sentient machine enslaving humanity for energy, but, unlike The Matrix, the energy they take can be sourced much easier from other methods given the advanced nature of their machines.

its really strange that some people love this film and some hate it

i loved it. one of my fav films of the year too

The writing and story are pretty bad but the visuals are a must see. Victoria is tasty in a 'could realistically smash' sort of way.

I love SciFi but found the story very boring and dull, to the point I started surfing the web on my iPad.

I do think the visuals are very good and the sound is fantastic.

Moon is such a better film, even though it's very slow paced.

I didn't think it was brilliant, but I did think it was quite good and I very much enjoyed it :).

I also liked Cruise in this and enjoy Tom Cruise in quite a lot of his films as he, at times, is an exceptional actor. It would have been nice to see another lesser known get the lead, but Cruise is very solid in this role, still not his best sci-fi though :p.

The film felt a bit like a mish mash of other science fiction stories however I thought it was well done. It also looked and sounded brilliant, a real treat for the eyes and ears.

Andrea Riseborough is very pretty.

I kind of liked the way the plot holes/inconsistencies in the first quarter or so of the movie gave away what was actually going on - if you stop to think about them they don't make sense but then once you realise they don't make sense you can extrapolate from it to work out the truth. I really enjoyed the first half and the visuals in the first half were stunning but in the second half there was nothing new in the visuals and the story slowly unravelled and became quite stale
