55k Miles, covered by BMW Insured Warranty until now.

Would you continue?

Just trying to decide whether to or not, any points and opinions would be appreciated.

Costs as follows:

Excess £0, £480 or £44pcm
Excess £100, £360 or £33pcm
Excess £250, £276 or £25pcm

ahh hi ben, i recognise you from the z4 forums, nice car you got pal :)

£44 a month is what i chose, just saves worrying about anything

enjoy the car!

Hi Will. Two people using their real names on two different forums. That's rare!!!

Very pleased in the end. As you know, I was considering yours before you jumped in and bought!!!

at £44 per month I'd take it, you might never use the warranty over the next say 3 years but if you do it could easily wipe out the £1500 or so it'll cost you over the term

Haven't bothered on mine, and no problems in 18 months/10k miles, now on 43k. Given you're close to 60k miles I would suggest the monthly/0 excess one if at all, the price won't increase once you're past that IIRC, whereas the annual one would.

Aside from the roof motor (supposedly less likely to get flooded on the facelift) there aren't any common, expensive issues that I know of and the engine is a relatively simple one with no turbos or direct injection like newer BMWs.

My username here and over on z4-forum is fairly close to my real name too :p.

I wouldn't bother.

Are you going to get £500 worth of repairs back this year? Probably not is the answer, considering you have the N52 engine and no roof motor to blow up again hopefully - the only thing i can see being an issue is just sensors going.

Are you saying that if I take out the monthly option it will continue at this price but if I do it annually it will go up when over 60k miles?

I believe so yes, I honestly believe that with one of the more modern BMW engines it's well worthwhile having the warranty. M54 I probably wouldn't bother but on the Si I'd always be worried.....maybe irrationally

I understand where you're coming from. However from what I've read the N52 is probably the most recent BMW engine with high reliability.

E85 == M54, E86 == N52. Si though was E86 only, the E85 was just a 3.0i I believe. What do you actually have?

Either way I wouldn't bother, if it's already had a new roof there's not much left that'll cost big bucks to fix, DISA aside.

Yeah, that's how it works. I definitely wouldn't bother if you've had the roof motor done recently though.

You can get E85 roadsters with the N52 (badged as 2.5i, 2.5si and 3.0si), it was facelifted and got the new engines when the E86 coupe came out in 2006.

Thanks for the input Chris, I would be happy to run without a warranty but it seems reasonable value so I'm thinking of doing it for at least the first couple of months of ownership.

Not sure what the deal is with the coding, my impression was that E85 was roadster, E86 Coupe. E85 being roadster before and after the facelift. (which is what Andrew seems to confirm)

Mine is facelifted roadster with the 265ps N52 engine.
