John Carmack says NVidia drivers are 'consistently superior'

O

I didn't misread it because that was my point, its a crap game and i don't know why people are making such a fuss over it like it was an important game.
And then needing DLC to be able to go back and do the things you missed.

Somehow still missed what I was saying LOL :p

Like you said RAGE was crap right and isn't important.. John Carmack made that poor game so... Who cares what he thinks?

That is what I am saying :)

He has good ideas but sometimes they are implemented badly.
And he did say sorry and we will see how much he was with the next game :)

its a crap game

The is a world of difference between a game that is not up to the developers usual excellence and "crap", RAGE my have been substandard for iD and average to average good but it was by no means crap, it just had bad luck as to when it was launched (better games launched around the same time) and that it had a very similar theme to Borderlands which is an amazing game.

Its by no means a landmark game but the visuals were excellent and it was fun, worth its price tag at least (and lets not forget the mini game card collection thing, I think I spent more time playing that than Supreme Commander 2 /shudder).

I have used both GFX cards from AMD and Nvidia and in fairness traditionally AMD drivers were shocking and either caused driver crashes and lock up's where I never experienced any issues with Nvidia drivers.

I am currently using an AMD 7970 without any issues. People say graphics quality is better on AMD hardware but for me stability is king in which case my next card will probably see me back in the Nvidia fold. I wish AMD would sort their drivers out and improve their QA as I don't see their hardware as bad or inferior compared to Nvidia.

All depends on which games you play, if Metro is your thing then Nvidia and PhysX might be the way forward for you.

I really enjoyed Rage though I admit I'm not usually into racing games, having said that it wasn't all about racing.

RHS, I also have used many cards from both and disagree with you entirely, rarely had a problem with 'drivers' from either camp. What I don't understand is , surely if there is a 'bad driver' then it would affect all computers, not just some. I subscribe to the theory that most of these 'bad drivers' are down to pebkac. :)

RAGE isn't really a racing game, it's a FPS with driving bits in it.

Not a great game, but not an awful game either. I bought it for a fiver last Steam sale, probably worth it for that but not any more.

I enjoyed RAGE quite a lot, though I tend to agree with others in that I didn't find it to be a 'very' good game. Things like vanishing enemy bodies (nothing new I know), but that added along with, iirc, not being able to pick up many weapons / too many blocked off areas hasn't enticed me back to replay it. I'll pick up the dlc at some point, but I'm in absolutely no rush to do so.

I hope and do expect that we'll see the mega texture engine shine more on new products as time transpires. I just hope I'm not too old to appreciate them by then, as a triple AAA title takes a long time to develop.

Although his opinion is well respected, and he's more than likely right IMO given the luck I've had in the past with AMD drivers, I do laugh at how every thing he says is taken as gospel. He's not produced a decent game in years.

Tiled resources is one the features coming to future DX updates so the functionality will probably be merged with mega texturing in future id engines.

The issue is that many people have vastly different experiences.

Some have nothing but trouble with nVidia drivers, some have nothing but trouble with AMD drivers.

Realistically, most of it will be down to user error, but most people won't admit user error.

John Carmack is at it again, this time bigging up AMD. :D

Lol, way for them to take things out of context and misquote Carmack! He said AMD are occassionally faster and he's being diplomatic by saying their hardware is top notch, not that Nvidia's isn't either. That tweet also fails to point out why Carmack has preferred Nvidia all that time.

Those types of tweets are getting really annoying now... Especially ones that try to make headlines by misquoting statements...
