US: True Blood Season 6 (contains spoilers)

Can someone explain to me why I love True Blood so much?! :D

It baffles me, it really does... It's a show primarily aimed at women (usually a stylistic turn-off for me), I have no great love of vampire stories, and it's certainly not the "best" show currently airing (in terms of raw quality).

So... what is it that makes me keep wanting - no, needing - to watch it and see how the story progresses?! I really don't know... All I know is it's the only show I feel compelled to stay up to watch every Sunday night that it airs... With every other show I just wait for the next day when I get home from work. But for True Blood I end up staying awake until 3am every week, and spending Monday exhausted.

Maybe it's just tradition. Or maybe it's just because Jessica is so hot. Who knows. Roll on episode 8.

I think to be honest the main thing now is that it's while it's trying to keep a modicum on internal logic going on, for the most part it's just totally embraced how silly urban fantasy can be and is running with it, look at the events of the last couple of series compared to the first couple.

Season 1: the main focus was all about a pair of Vampires pushing for the affections of a woman, partially in measuring contests but mostly through vampire politics, your only other real supernatural elements are Sam's subplot and a witch who at the time is played as if she may or may not have been a total con artist.

By season 4 it's all about a ghost, a medium, real witches (casting oodles of spells onscreen), shifters, werewolves werepanthers and fairies in addition to the vampire politics already introduced. Season 5 you add an ancient vampire god to the list. And now we're adding hybrids and a vampire internment camp to the proceedings.

As I said, in my view, it's charm now is that it's embraced the inherent silliness that comes with urban fantasy.

season 1 was pretty cool and almost believable.
I hate all the werewolf , shifter , fairy crap

the vampire concentration camp is pretty cool though but totally unbelievable at times like that guys daughter... walking around the corridors etc like non of the guards would know who she is...

I just love it every time Andy says "Vampire Bill" :D

Me too :D. What is it with that?

Anyway...So just like last season then I'm mostly following the main plot which is reasonable, but these now 'side' characters and their stories are just forgettable and appear wholly insignificant to their roles in the previous seasons.

What I mean is that, these characters (Lafayette, Sam, Alcide etc) previously all had connection to the main protagonists/story. Layette used to hustle V Blood. But that's all over and thanks to his gay voodoo mate Lafayette now involuntarily whores his body out to spirits or whatever and attempts to drown Sookie. Great scene that by the way, I really pondered her fate and was totally and utterly surprised when she was saved

As for this Sookie ****, soon as she found that fairy vamp in the ditch I knew she'd be ****ing him soon. Who didn't?

And what the hell is the feud between Alcide and Sam I mean really wtf? Again, the wolves and Eddington, Sam the Maenad Slayer, but now these two have beef? Alcide is such a fag. Ever since he took charge of these pack of mutts, rolling around in his dump trucks acting like such a hard nut squaring up to someone 1/3 his side lol.

As for Sam I haven't really watched his scenes for a while (same for nearly all other characters) as they just appear too unimportant and boring for me to be bothered with. I see he was shifting about with that other shifter for a while and then she died?

Rhetorical questions ;)

As said I am liking the Humans vs Vampire plot though. Didn't like the governor, too much of a joker and not even a remotely serious authoritive figure. I'm glad Bill ripped his head off.

THAT was a great scene. The way Bill just strolls in arms abreast 'OMG I love myself so much, hit me!' casually laughing whilst bullets pummel his torso. Perfect Bill.

I know the feeling duff man, there is just something about this show that I absolutely love and makes it probably my favourite TV show ever. The first season just took me by surprise but I feel that all the seasons since season 3 have lacked that little "spark" (but still obviously love it! :D :p). I really miss how season 1 only really had the 1 GREAT plot and we didn't have a clue whatsoever who the killer was (at least the people who didn't read the comics).

I do love pretty much any vampire based stuff though i.e. buffy, angel, blade etc.

The pace is just perfect (although there are usually at least 1-2 episode each season that are a bit slow), the characters are awesome, script is superb and it has great comedy scenes i.e. Andy, Lafayette, good performances all round and nice wee twists every now and then. It is a shame we haven't had any Maxine Fortenberry this season, she is a legend!

Loving this season so far, I thought the side story lines were pretty good to start of with but they have got pretty poor now, dragging it on....

Hope to see Rutger return for a proper send of or epic battle or something though.

I really can't see this getting another season after the seventh one though :(

since when

Really?!

The entire concept is female-centric. A bunch of ancient, sexy vampires lusting after a waitress?

Hell, just about every vampire-related piece of fiction is female-oriented. Hell, check out the readership for the books the show is based on.

Don't get me wrong - I love the show, but it's still aimed primarily at women. Does't mean that men can't enjoy it of course!

edit - finished downloading - watching now :D [heart sick and eyes filled up with blue etc]

There's quite a lot of naked women in it for a show that's apparently aimed at women :p

I think it's perfectly aimed at both. I love it because it's weird and doesn't take itself too seriously.

Looks interesting :) Thanks Nexus.

you might want to edit your post before you get a ban

Women like to look at women also :p And there's no shortage of shirtless / near-naked men either. One of the reasons True Blood is so successful for HBO is that it appeals strongly to women. Very few other HBO shows are particularly female-friendly (and much of HBOs air time is also sports).

It's probably the second most female-oriented show that I watch (after Arrow), but I enjoy it still :)

2) No discussion whatsoever of how to acquire episodes unless you are highlighting a legal source in the UK e.g. iPlayer, 4od etc. If you have any doubts about the legality then either don’t post it or contact a moderator and wait for a response..

I'm guessing telling people you are downloading the episode before it's even started airing in america is considered piracy talk and giving people a heads up that it's on random torrent sites already

Bit of a stretch there, don't you think? Especially since it's HBO GO that was the source... And yes, it was already available on HBO GO before I posted.

rtm the post if you like. There was "no discussion whatsoever" about how to obtain the file, and I never mentioned where I was downloading it from, so I don't see the problem. The only thing you can infer from my post is that it was a digital file requiring a download.

I agree to a certain degree, I would prefer it with less of the 'supes'. Vampires were enough, werewolves you can understand to a degree but some of the other stuff is a bit silly... Witches, Maenads, werepanthers and most of all the fairy thing. I also liked it better when I thought Same could turn into a dog (and that was it) being able to turn into pretty much any animal regardless of size is a bit rubbish. Sometimes I think the less is more approach would work a bit better.

With that said it is a great show and I'm really enjoying this series so far, as always there is usually some story lines I like better than others, the prison, Vampires against humans is great... The Sookie/Warlow love in is not so great.

Pretty good episode but a lot of annoying stuff and some scenes just dragged on and on:

- Warlow has turned out to be completely pointless, especially when he was hyped up so much since the end of season 5...... Has just been stuck in that other reality the entire time with a script of how much he wants Sookie and nothing else.....Lets hope he gets some proper air time in the finale!
- Surely could the vamps in the white room not go out the way that Bill came in  Also with that many vamps in that one room, am sure that they could have easily broke the glass that leads into the other room......
- I get the feeling that Eric has left the show :( Probably only see him as a "guest" the next season
- too much camera time just showing the vamps high and walking in daylight
- I love how all the vamps including Jessica just run of and leave their saviour (Bill) lying on the ground near death, great way to thank him! :D
- far too much time spent on the funeral and Terry was barely even a side character......... although there were a couple of great lines by the grandma, lafayette :D

Loved it when Steve Newlin met the sun, *looks up at Sarah* "I love you..............Jason Stackhouse" :D

I hope Niall shows up in the finale.

why didn't jason get erik or bill to tell that woman who thinks she owns him to **** off
like erik could have said he's mine and he obviously likes jason or bill could have done it because Jessica likes jason

she can't be that old if she doesn't even seem able to fly.
how come no one jumped up out of the room where they would meet the sun and kill the woman who opened the ceiling ? sometimes this show has **** writing

erik could have flew through the hole grabbed her took her like 1000ft into the air and then let her go would have been awesome :|

Went to check the episode summaries for the upcoming ones as it seemed weird to wrap the story up so early. Turns out they cut it to 10 episodes this season because of Anna Paquin's pregnancy when shooting so now there's only 1 episode left to introduce next seasons storyline.
